    ponce de leon springs state park is located 10 miles east of defuniak springs on US 90. this small spring has a very nice swimming area and picknick pavillions. the park also offers fishing and nature trails. a very nice place to visit in northwest florida.

    located on the grounds of the walton county courthouse is the confederate civil war memorial. this unique memorial was the first to be erected after the civil war in the state of florida.

    located in the defuniak springs historic district is the walton county heritage museum. the museum is a good first stop to learn about the history and culture of defuniak springs. see the attached web site for more information.

    about 20 miles northwest of defuniak springs is the tiny town of paxton florida. near paxton is britton hill which is the highest point in the state of florida. britton hill is 345 feet above sea level which gives britton hill the destinction of being the "lowest" highest point of any state in the united states.

    from defuniak springs take US 331 north to lakewood highway about a mile south of paxton florida.
