This is my favorite waterfront restaurant in Destin. The exterior of the restaurant is rather unimpressive; it is basically a brown rectanguar! Due to this, it is less touristy and crowded than many of the MASSIVE seafood restaurants located along Hwy 98. It features a HUGE outdoor deck with amazing views over the Destin Harbor. The food is delicious -- and they have the best hamburgers in Destin. If you are on vacation, I would definently recommend this restaurant. It will give you fresh, local seafood without the cheap tourist atmosphere. Shake's Frozen Custard is the best thing I have ever eaten. I'm really not exaggerating; its delicious! When I first moved to Destin, I would literally drive there every week for their Pink Poodle Sundae (three scoops of their creamy custard, topped with heaping amounts of pineapples, strawberries, and bananas). I know that the term "custard" sounds a bit icky, but trust me, its amazing. Frozen custard is basically ice cream, but it's creamier and has more flavor. Yum, yum, yum. Everyone who comes to visit me in Destin is immediately taken to Shake's, and they all love it!
I usually get the Pink Poodle Sundae. It consists of three large scoops of vanilla custard, topped with pineapples, strawberries, and bananas (although I always get extra strawberries instead of the pineapples!). They also have yummy concretes -- my favorite is oreo. You can't miss it though- its located near Wendy's and Chick-Fil-A, and has a BIG sign on hwy 98.

We go back to the Boathouse all the time, it's our very favorite place to eat, listen to music and watch the sunset. It's just a little nothing shack that sits on a dock but it has THE best atmosphere and the people there are always so friendly and just seem so genuinely happy to be serving you. I loved it there! So did my husband. We stumbled across it by accident on our first trip to Destin and are so happy that we did.
We absolutely LOVE the baked oysters! They smother them in bacon and cheese and then bake them. Pour on some Louisiana hot sauce and you're in HEAVEN. The gumbo is THE best we've had anywhere. Wash it all down with a corona and then have some of their yummy Key Lime Pie. Yummy! It's tiny so be prepared to wait, we've never had a problem getting a table but we usually go EARLY. Like one of the other writers, we were looking for a charming breakfast place in Destin. Although the Destin Diner is charming, we wanted breakfast food that was a world apart. This trip we discovered the Neighborhood Cafe, in Mary Esther, on the west side of Fort Walton Beach. It is truly a local establishment, and serves som incredible dishes, including some jewels they call Homemade Secret Pancakes and Homemade Secret Belgian Waffles. Amazing omelettes and biscuits and gravy to die for. Eat there daily and you will waddle out - but one vacation splurge is de rigeur. And to top it off - the prices are what you might expect to find in a tiny truck stop on some little state highway leading to no place in particular. Charming little booths and lots of character. Don't miss it! Theme: BreakfastPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Sun Plaza. Mary Esther Cut OffDirections: Turn right on Mary Esther Blvd. on the west side of Fort Walton - go past the new Belk center - the Plaza is on the left.

Pompano Joe's is a seafood restaurant located right on the beach on scenic hwy 98. Although it does cater to those on vacation, it has a very fun atmosphere full of local flavor. While you can expect a bit of a wait during high season, they have a bar directly on the beach where you can wait for a table. The menu is mainly seafood, but there are plenty of other nonseafood items to choose from. The service is very good and efficient; they hire only experiences servers (unlike many Destin restaurants, who will hire anybody). This is a great place to go while on vacation. It's located right on the beach, and has a fun atmosphere that the entire family will enjoy. Bonefish Grill is actually a chain restaurant owned by Outback Steakhouse, but don't let that fool you. There are tons of local seafood restaurants in Destin, but Bonefish ranks up in my top five favorite places to eat. Compared to the typical seafood restaurant in Destin, Bonefish Grill is very elegant and has an upscale ambiance. The service is outstanding, and food is absolutely delicious. It is usually very crowded during the tourist season, especially on thurs-sun nights. Expect about a 45-90min wait, but you are able to call ahead and place your name on the list. This cuts down on waiting time! While you are waiting for a table, Bonefish has a great bar area where you can get yummy appetizers and drinks. I have lived in Destin for over a year, and Bonefish consistently provides a wonderful dining experience. The food is magnificant, the service is superb...I highly reccomend it!
I usually order the grilled Salmon with a lemon garlic sauce. Dinner comes with fresh, warm bread with olive oil for dipping. The house salad is amazing, although I prefer the caesar. My favorite drink is the Chocolate Martini. Very good! This is a great place to eat in Destin! The interior is terrific: lots of irish items everywhere, thick wooden booths and tables, and while it doesn't have a completely authentic Irish pub feel to it, it's the closest thing you'll get to it on the beach! Hanging from the ceiling are thousands upon thousands of dollar bills -- it looks like a fuzzy green forest! You can "donate" your dollar to McGuires and they will give you a membership card making you officially Irish. In addition, after you personalize the dollar bill, it will be hung in McGuire's forever! They have a wide selection of traditional pub dishes and standard American items. Their portions are enormous though -- I think their club salad uses at least 2 heads of lettuce! There are also a lot of fun things on the menu. For example, they offer 29 cent soup, and a hot fudge sundae hamburger! In addition, they have a large, upstairs outdoor deck with additional tables and a bar. Although McGuire's is located across the street from the Destin Harbour it is close enough to the Destin Bridge for a decent view. They feature live Irish music; feel free to get up and dance! It's a great place to bring your family; everyone will have fun. I sometimes go there with 12+ friends, and after our meal we drink, hang out, and listen to music on the upstairs deck until we go out.
Since this is an "Irish Pub," instead of describing my favorite dish, I'll describe my favorite drink! It's called the "Irish Wake" and it's served in a oversized souvenir mason jar. It's green and very tasty. They do have a brewery and offer many unique beers. I'm not much of a beer drinker, so I haven't had any. I did have a sip of their "Christmas" beer though, very good! Capt. Dave's on the Gulf by myrtle This restaurant is in a great location, especially if your condo is on Old Highway 98 because it'll be right down the street. It's actually located right across from the Beach Street Cottages. The ambiance is very elegant, so it's another place I like to dress nice when I eat there.
Again, all the seafood is great. I always like to order either the shrimp or blackened amberjack. Leave a Comment Theme: SeafoodPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Old Highway 98

The Crab Trap by myrtle Great service, great food. Another great seafood restaurant on the beach. Nice place to be when the sun is setting because you can get great pictures of the ocean at this time.
I like to order the Surf 'n Surf with shrimp & either blackened Amberjack or blackened Mahi Mahi. All the shrimp in Destin are huge, so the meals are rather filling. If you manage to have room afterwards, stop by the ice cream parlor. Leave a Comment
