crab hunting is one of my all time favorite attivities to do when i am at some beach somewhere in the world. its not a beach trip without a night of crab hunting and destin was a great spot for this activity. the crabs were huge that night and they made for a lot of fun catching (even though tim let two of the biggest ones get away) dont worry none of the craps were harmed and were all returned to the water safely without a scratch. be careful when crab hunting not to let one of those buggers get a hold of your finger. after all u are the one chasing them and they are trying to defend themselves, so when they get a hold of u, they let u have it. i guess we deserve it. make sure to wear clothes u can get wet in, and a pair of sandles. bring some flash lights and some buckets or nets. if u have a big group u can split up and see who cant catch the most or biggest crab. it may sound silly but dont knock it until u try it. have fun and remember to return the crabs safely to the ocean * feel free to rate this tip or any other of my tips, i am always looking to make improvements Leave a Comment

Nestled inside the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort (on the Bayside) is a cozy little place called the Village of Baytowne Wharf. Here you can find all sorts of shops, candy stores, & restaurants, & even nightclubs. There is also playground for the little ones just across a wooden bridge at the edge of the village. A frequent stop of ours is ACME Seafood & Oyster House. (Try the Oysters Rumalade - it's delicious!) Of course we always have to stop at the candy store so the kids can get a good sugar buzz. They always have a big selection of chocolates & fudge, taffy, & pretty much anything you can make with sugar. You can take a ferry across the water to the village, or you can simply drive. Leave a Comment Address: Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort (Bayside)Directions: Go East on Hwy 98 about 5 miles past the Mid-Bay Bridge turn & take a left into the Resort. Stop at the gate & ask for directions to the village.Website: http://www.baytownewharf.com/

Big Kahunas is a waterpark located right on Hwy 98 in the middle of Destin. You can't miss it! While it is a little pricy ($50-60/person), it can be a fun alternative to a day at the beach, especially when there is tons of seaweed in the ocean. It is mostly geared towards younger kids, but there are enough fun rides to entertain everyone in the family. In addition to rides, Big Kahunas has a wave pool, two lazy rivers, and plenty of areas filled with lounge chairs for sunbathing. Since there are so few people who actually LIVE in destin, many companies use foreign workers. This is the case at Big Kahunas. Most of the employees are european, and do not speak english very well. They all have whistles, which they will blow at you if you break a rule. Sometimes you won't even know why a whistle is being blown at you, and it can be amusing! Overall, Big Kahunas provides a fun outing for everyone in the family. One suggestion: instead of paying for overpriced mediocre food at the waterpark, you can get your hand stamped at the gate for reentry and eat elsewhere. I would recommend Mellow Mushroom. It's a great pizzeria located directly across the street. Leave a Comment

The Track is a large outdoor facility that has several fun go-cart courses, bungee jumping, and other adrenaline-pumping rides. It also has bumper boats and mini golf. The majority of the crowd consists of families and it's fun for all ages! During the summer, it is PACKED every night! It's a bit pricey, the bungee jumping and other fun rides can be as much as $20/person. However, I would reccommend checking it out; it's a great place to take the kids. There are a lot of great places to snorkel in Destin! The easiest and most enjoyable way to snorkel in Destin is to go on a snorkeling boat trip. There are many places that offer these, such as A.J.'s. It's a great activity not only for adults, but for kids as well. If you want to go snorkeling on your own, a good place for it is near the Destin jetties on Holiday Isle. At the end of Gulf Shore Dr there is a parking lot, and you can easily walk to the beach from there. In fact, most snorkeling boats make regular stops near the jetties! Leave a Comment

Renting jet ski's is a ton of fun and a great way to enjoy the beautiful waters surrounding Destin! Crab Island is an stretch of water in the Bay (near the Destin bridge) that has very shallow waters (4-10ft), and is THE place to hang out during the summer w/ your boat and jet-ski. You can have fun going super-fast in the ocean/bay, then go to crab island to hang out and swim. It makes for a fun day on the water! Leave a Comment

This bowling alley is the best in the Destin area. It has been recently remodeled and has 26 lanes, all equipped with touch-screen scoring systems. On friday and saturday nights they feature live D.J.'s, and they have a Pro shop, Cafe, and a full-liquor bar. Bowling is a fun family activity, and Hurricane Lanes has a very upbeat atmosphere. In addition, it is much cleaner than most bowling alley's I've been to. Leave a Comment

One of my favorite things to do on the beach is to have a picnic! I like going to the beach on Holiday Isle -- it's more secluded and less crowded than other Destin beaches. Although there isn't a Kentucky Fried Chicken in Destin (which is my favorite picnic food), it's still relaxing to eat some yummy sandwiches and watch the waves on the beach. I especially enjoy to picnic during the fall when it's not as hot outside. Leave a Comment

Both Big Kahunas and The Track have mini golf courses. It's a fun activity for the family, and very cheap (about $2/game). It's a great nighttime activity - but does get very crowded during the summer months. I would reccommend going to the Big Kahunas vs. the Track mini golf course; Big Kahunas attracts a more family-orientated crowd. Leave a Comment Address: Both are on Hwy 98 in Destin

Around 5:00pm or so maybe a little later, all of the fishing boats start to come in with their catches. It's so fun to stand around and watch the fishermen/women hang up their catch of the day and take pictures. It's also so fascinating to see all of the birds that hang out down at the Marina because they all seem so unafraid of people. They just hang around and wait to get some "leftovers".
