Rough Water Swim
My husband seems to be able to find a swim race or triathlon no matter where we go, sometimes we plan around it, this time I was debating between two dates for the cruise and he found a swim race in Fort Lauderdale on January 7, 2012. That swim race was cancelled and then he found another swim race so he ended up doing a mile swim, The International Swimming Hall of Fame's Fort Lauderdale Rough Water Swim. He ended up doing it again when we returned in 2013.
The race started at Terramar Street and ended near the International Swimming Hall of Fame. Although it was billed as rough water, the ocean was very calm that morning. Most of the participants were college age or younger and they seemed to be from all over the country, not just Florida.
After the race we met up with David's high school swimming coach, Jon Erikson, who lives in the Fort Lauderdale area. He was the 1st person to do a triple crossing of the English Channel in 1981., pretty amazing!
Ice Skating on the Navigator
Ice Skating is available on the cruise ship as well as ice shows. The open skating sessions are open to all and you must wear appropriate clothing (pants). The skating is on the lower level of the ship and out of the way. The ice area is quite large and the ice space is big enough for a good show with plenty of seats.
Equipment: Ice Skates are available
GO ROLLER BLADING
If there is one thing Ft. Lauderdale has a lot of, it's roller bladders. There wasn't a day during my visit that I didn't see someone whizzing down the side walks or in the streets with their roller blades on. Jason is an avid roller bladder and often skates in marathons and fun raisers. There are skate parks available for those less than brave when it comes to dodging traffic.
Equipment: roller blades, elbow pads, knee pads, helmet and wrist guards

Jason and I both love to bike. There are more than enough places in Ft. Lauderdale to hop on your bike and go for a mile or more. Jason can be found a few times a year riding his bike for any number of charities. He did a hundred mile ride one time. He was so sore after that he got a deep tissue massage.
Equipment: Bike, helmet, water bottle and water

If there is one thing Jason really likes to do, it's scuba diving. He has his own tanks, fins etc. Before you can go scuba diving you have to have the appropriate certification. The website listed provides a decent list of some of the companies that have scuba trips as well as beaches where one can go to.
Equipment: fins, mask, tank etc.
Baseball in Florida
Florida Marlins playing field - before it rained! This picture was taken from a suite at the Dolphin's Stadium in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale. What a great place to party while watching the game. The best part is we didn't get rained on like those in the seats below.

Rainout at Marlin's Game
We got a great kick out of watching these guys cover the baseball diamond in the rain. They were coordinated and quick! Reminded me of synchronized swimming or dancing, very intertaining!!!
