Our friend Dana took us to BEACH SEAFOOD MARKET to get some jumbo shrimp for an appetizer before dinner. What a neat place. On one side (right) is the Market where all sorts of fresh fish and seafood is displayed. On the other is the restarant part where you can pick out your own fish and have it cooked for you. Behind the glass wall at the restaurant part you can watch as shrimp is processed and packaged. There is also a display of all kinds of fish on ice.
There are all kinds of brochures on how to cook local fish and some recipes. Also there are shelves full of shrimp and seafood sauce and seasonings.
Types of local fish:
Grouper: is excellent cooked any way. Fry, bake or on the grill
Snapper: cooks best broiled or baked
Swordfish: is excellent cooked on the grill. Marinate in teriyaki sauce.
Tuna: marinate in Italian dressing and either grill, broil or bake
Tile Fish: can be baked, broiled or fries and is good in chowders or fish salad
Dolphin: the "fish" not Flipper the "mammal" can be baked, broiled, pan fried, deep fried or in foil on the barbeque
Cobia: has a firm white meat and is excellent deep fried or cooked on the grill

Edison Mall is 14 miles north of Fort Myers Beach, towards the city of Fort Myers, but it's well worth the trip. It's the largest shopping mall in SW Florida, housing 4 department stores and 160 smaller shops, and you will find anything you need there. It's like an Aladdin's cave for a British tourist and I always come back with bag-loads of goodies.
At one end of the Mall is an eating area where a wide range of 'fast food' is on offer. Other cafes can be found amongst the shops.
The Mall is spotlessly clean, air conditioned and a thoroughly pleasant place to shop.

Tanger Outlet Mall is an open-air mall of shops of all kinds, selling high quality goods at discount prices. There's a wide variety of clothes shops for both men and women, other specialist shops and a couple of places to stop for a drink and a snack. All are arranged on a boardwalk, with plenty of seats in case you get tired. There's a huge car park, lined with palm trees and hibiscus bushes.
It's a lovely place to shop, the clothes are extremely cheap compared to the UK, and I stock up with summer clothes every time I go.
All the shops are open from 9am to 9pm every day, except Sunday, when it's 11am to 6pm.
What to buy: Clothes and beachwear.

There are many neat little shops in like a little village near the pier and around the square. This area is full of people and young kids driving, so be careful. Great place to walk around and take it all in, good ice cream and other foods. Local crafts to well known stores.
