Not the prettiest beaches in Florida, but will full fill the basic beach bum needs. A nice pier in the busiest part of the beach. More of a younger crowd, if that is your thing. So have fun, look at the hotties and use plenty of sun screen.
Fort Myers Beach has 7 miles of gorgeous white sand. It's a haven for people... and for wildlife. Sunrise and sunset are great times to take a walk on the beach when sometimes, herons, egrets and pelicans are the only company you have. Dolphins are also often seen just off the shore and there are strict regulations in place to protect the turtles that lay their eggs in the sand. The ocean is clean and clear and you share your bathing with a variety of small fish. The only danger is stingrays, who don't take kindly to being stepped on so it's recommended that you shuffle your feet as you walk in the water, or wear water shoes. I've never worn shoes but you do have to be careful.
An efficient beach service provides you with cabanas, chairs and umbrellas and jet skiing and parasailing is available at various places on the beach.
It's the perfect place to escape a busy life and just lay back and chill. I always go during May, which is a quiet season, but I gather it gets more crowded at other times of the year.
This is a great place, wonderful wide beaches, not really any wave and the water is shallow for quite a distance, great for skim boarding and little kids! We would suggest water shoes due to the shells every where, don't want the little ones feet to get hurt. Plenty to do for the older kids from teens to adults if they get bored only a few feet away like shopping, bar food and fishing. Get there early because parking fills up quick close to the beach.
Beachcombing is an extremely fun thing to do in Ft. Myers. This is what my sister, mother and I were doing on this overcast day (I am in the blue at right). You can find a great variety of shells as well as other sealife and shark teeth. And it is great exercise, too!
Well if you are in Ft Myers beach there is no way around it. You just got to spend some time at the beach, but that is no punishment.
These white beaches and warm sea are just a delight to be on...
