    Okalee Seminole Museum and Village

    Okalee Seminole Museum

Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino
4150 North State Road 7 Hollywood, Florida 33024

Directions: Take I-95 to Stirling Road. Go West to State Road 7 (441). On the South West Corner of the intersection.

Didn't get a chance to see the Indian Village as it closed before I could enter. The Museum was small, and mostly modern Seminole creations - but artsy and was very informative about the history of the Seminole Peoples. Its worth a gander if you are in the resort. Rating 2 1/2 stars out of 5.

    Trail of the Lost Tribes

The Trail of the Lost Tribes is a partnership between public and private organizations and individuals to provide consistent interpretation of the archeology, anthropology, and natural history of the ancient cultural sites on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

Five centuries ago, Florida was home to approximately 100,000 native people living in hundreds of communities, and representing many different cultures. For more than 12,000 years the original Floridians left traces of their lives and work on the landscape. Their ceremonial mounds, village middens, hunting camps, and other archaeological remains are fragile messengers from this profoundly different time. Our archaeological heritage is a legacy that we are privileged to experience and obligated to protect. It is a link to people and cultures that are mostly extinct, as well as to the vibrant native cultures of the present. Thanks to the Trail of the Lost Tribes you can experience the places and the lives of Florida’s native people.

    Tea, Tea, Tea!!!

    Querque Verde likes tea too!!!

This really isn't off the beaten path, but is outside of Hollywood .......

Teavana is a heavenly chain exclusively selling teas and tea accessories. Being a tea addict, I look for this treat whenever I travel in the US.

In addition to buying looseleaf teas, I can get a cup of custom blended teas right there at the counter :)

I am particularly fond of ther tea infuser ... clean, efficient, etc ..... it's my #1 gift to give. QV liked the starter kit which has 2 oz each of 4 different looseleaf teas, cane sugar, a measuring spoon and that wonderful infuser for about 60.00$

The closest shop to Hollywood Florida is in the Gallaria Mall in Ft Lauderdale .......

    Manatees and Pelicans to see.....

Don't let the pelican go fishing :)

off of the A1A, just north of the town of Hollywood is an area along the intercoastal canals that has charter fishing boats... there is also a Manatee breeding ground in the same area.

If you pull over and just wander, you will walk along nice piers/paths that go into the canal a short way to allow you to see more of the canal.

By the fishing boats are the Pelicans - of course :) They are pretty tame for large beaked birds, I was able to get really close for these pics, and these birds just looked at me .. it seemed he was thinking, "is that edible? It doesn't smell like a fish ..."
