While Jacksonville's abundant coastline gives surfers a lot to gloat about, the city's skateboarding community also has a reason to be proud. That's because Jacksonville is home to Kona, which now reigns as the oldest operating skateboard park in the country. Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, who occasionally makes an appearance at Kona, even included the park in one of his popular video games. The park is located in a neighborhood southwest of Regency Square Mall in the Arlington area of town.
For those who are Limp Bizkit fans (I am not but know some people are), I heard that Fred used to hang out in Kona Skate park on 8739 Kona Ave. when he lived in Florida. Getting there is a bit tricky but it is between Century St. and Kona Ave. east of the Saint Johns river. You will know that you are in the area if you see dirt roads, houses with lots of pitbulls and other fierce dogs, rednecks and small churches. It is off of Arlington Expressway. You can call if you get lost.
