My sister in law made reservations for 18 people on July 1, 2007 for her mother and fathers (my mother and father in law)40th wedding anniversary. The whole family minus two people who were late, were in the reserved room enjoying the party when the manager of the restaurant BARGED in and and aggressively grabbed the (fragile) anniversary cake that belonged to my in laws! She was moving it to clear a table for OTHER people!! She claimed that since two of the people in out party were late, it voided our reservation of the room!! She was EXREMELY RUDE and she made a HUGE scene! It was SO embarrassing we will NEVER go there again! That manager has NO consideration for others and NO manners!

While I certainly wouldn't call it the best restaurant in JAX, it certainly is one of the more unique. Most of the restaurant juts out over Julington Creek on a floating dock. Diners out on the deck can watch recreational boaters coming back after a day on the water, (but watch out for the black flies--ouch!) while diners inside can study an amazing array of stuffed beasties that cover the ceiling and walls. Otherwise, the decor is simple, with wood-slat tables and rolls of paper towels for napkins. This is a good famliy spot, as the portions are generous, and mom and dad can enjoy a cold pitcher while the kids check out the animals. Do note, though, that it's ALWAYS packed, and parking--despite a lot-- can be a real challenge.
The grilled scallops are very tasty, as is most of the fried fish. If you're hungry, order a grilled quail on the side--juicy and flavorful. The smoked fish dip is okay, but not as wonderful as they claim. Come here for good down-home southern cooking. Nothing fancy restaurant with really good food.
I had the "hot" wings with jamacian seasoning. They were almost too hot. I would go with the medium next time. If I lived here there would definately be visits in my future. Even though the wings were really hot, they were really good. Theme: OtherPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: I wasn't driving. Don't have a clue.

First Street Grill is right on the beach and the food is outstanding. The Restaurant is located right on the beach in the JaX Beach area north of the Boardwalk.
Start off with the Lobster Medallions Appetizer. It's sliced and fried Slippertail Lobster served with a Key Lime Aioli. The meat is juicy and tender and the Aioli is great for dipping. As a main course I had the Cajun shrimp which were sauteed in Cajun sauce. The spices were great and provided just enough kick without setting you on fire. Fly's Tie is a lot of fun. If you're between the ages of 21 and 35, you'll probably feel right at home in this low-key, wood-paneled bar. It's slightly kitchy, which you'd expect from an Irish themed bar, but it serves many beers on tap and has nice, friendly staff. The people who go to the bar on a regular basis are also friendly--you'll find no pretention here. A definite jeans and t-shirt kind of place.

Gene's is an inexpensive seafood restaurant with an amazing variety of seafood to choose from. This place is a basic, unpretentious restaurant that focuses on the food. Gene's offers everything from Shrimp and crab to alligator, Frog Legs, and about any fish you can think of. You can get it Fried, Broiled or Blackened and it's all good. The service is quick and because of the extensive menu and low prices, it's a good place to experiment a little.
Fried Alligator and Shrimp Lunch for $6.00. There's More Alligator than Shrimp which was surprising. Served with Fries and your choice of Cole Slaw or Apple Sauce. The Ponte Vedra Beach is the best so far. It's down A1A, past Sawgrass on the right in a strip Mall.

I visited Gene's Seafood for the first time, Beach and 9A. The food was excellent but the service was horrible. From the moment we walked in until we left. Please, get friendlier servers. I do not believe I will be visiting another Gene's even though the food was great.
