Clark's Fish Camp: good fried food, unique setting
While I certainly wouldn't call it the best restaurant in JAX, it certainly is one of the more unique. Most of the restaurant juts out over Julington Creek on a floating dock. Diners out on the deck can watch recreational boaters coming back after a day on the water, (but watch out for the black flies--ouch!) while diners inside can study an amazing array of stuffed beasties that cover the ceiling and walls. Otherwise, the decor is simple, with wood-slat tables and rolls of paper towels for napkins. This is a good famliy spot, as the portions are generous, and mom and dad can enjoy a cold pitcher while the kids check out the animals. Do note, though, that it's ALWAYS packed, and parking--despite a lot-- can be a real challenge.
Favorite Dish: The grilled scallops are very tasty, as is most of the fried fish. If you're hungry, order a grilled quail on the side--juicy and flavorful. The smoked fish dip is okay, but not as wonderful as they claim. Come here for good down-home southern cooking.
Clark's Fish Camp: RUINED ANNIVERSARY!
My sister in law made reservations for 18 people on July 1, 2007 for her mother and fathers (my mother and father in law)40th wedding anniversary. The whole family minus two people who were late, were in the reserved room enjoying the party when the manager of the restaurant BARGED in and and aggressively grabbed the (fragile) anniversary cake that belonged to my in laws! She was moving it to clear a table for OTHER people!! She claimed that since two of the people in out party were late, it voided our reservation of the room!! She was EXREMELY RUDE and she made a HUGE scene! It was SO embarrassing we will NEVER go there again! That manager has NO consideration for others and NO manners!
Favorite Dish: none!
Clark's Fish Camp is on...
Clark's Fish Camp is on Julington Creek in the Mandarin area. Best restaurant in Jax.
Decorated with many wildlife mounts and outdoor decor. Used to be a bait and tackle and has expanded from there
Favorite Dish: all you can eat catfish, swamp fest platter, peel & eat shrimp, oysters any way, quail, crawfish, alligator. It's all good.

Favorite Dish: Potatoes were bad six people in my party had to send them back.Food is overly salted.Place smells moldy.
Clark's Fish Camp: Worst dining experience ever.
Here's a run down of our expereince:
First, we sat outside. No service.
We moved into the bar area, where we did find some semblance of service. A bartender that was not familiar with the products in his bar, unfamiliar with the menu, and completely unfamiliar with the idea of good service.
Almost no good health code practices.
It took over 15 minutes to just close out check out. With a bar down to less than 6 people, closing out should not have been a problem. Unfortunately, the bartender had disappeared (again).
The hostess/floor manager(?) was busy eating her dinner at the hostess stand.
The kitchen staff was busy leaning on the counters in the back.
The bar backs could not run checks.
It seemed no one could be bothered to provide quality service.
About the food...
We were told the “shrimp basket” was the largest order of shrimp we could get and oysters were not available.
The coleslaw was warm and watery.
The shrimp basket consisted of 8 shrimp and a small handful of fries.
My basket came with hush puppies; my dining partner’s did not.
We had to ask for ketchup and then shared it with others that were waiting.
We also watched a large plate of oysters on the half shell being delivered to a neighboring table.
I tried to be polite, understanding, and friendly. Hard to do that with staff that are not around and staff that cannot/will not make an effort to provide a good experience.
