I-95 runs right through Jacksonville for about 30 miles. I-10 starts in the middle of Jacksonville and heads west. I-295/9A Loops around Jacksonville for people wanting to go round the city.
Note that Jacksonville has 7 bridges: Dames Point (9-A), Hart Bridge, Matthews Bridge, Acosta Bridge, Main Street Bridge (US 1), Fuller Warren Bridge(I-95), and the Buckman Bridge (I-295). Whenever driving somewhere, always ask which drive you have to drive on because one wrong move could land you in the ghetto. Generally speaking if you see that you are in a neighborhood with brightly colored, but run down houses with dirt on sidewalks, you are in the wrong side of town. W. Moncrief Rd., New and Old Kings Rd. and most streets with West something to it are rough. This is off of I-295 and US 1. Some parts of I-10 and 295 run into the rough parts of town.
Overall, Jax is a big but rather safe city, so don't be scared.
Jacksonville is a BIG city, in land area. I lived in Jacksonville for 5 years and it is the best city I have ever lived in. Depending where you live, either fly or drive
