Most people eating here looked like golfers - there is a golf course across the street.
The wait staff wear Tshirts that say "Heaven is where the police are British, the cooks French, the mechanics German, the lovers Italian, and it is all organized and run by the Swiss.
Hell is where the police are German, the cooks British, the mechanics French, the lovers Swiss, and it is all organized and run by the Italians"
The restaurant was nicely decorated, with carpet on the ceiling (which had precast concrete beans) to keep down the noise
Favorite Dish: Trying to keep the total bill down, Bob had a bowl of the soup of the day (split pea $2.50) and a serving of lasgna ($11.95) which he couldn't finish and we brought it home and a banana coupe ($3.95)
I had chicken l'orange ($12.95) which was so tender I could cut it with a fork (but I also couldn't finish and had to bring part of it home). With our entrees we got bread, and I had au gratin potatoes. We each also got a salad. I had a chocolate mouse cake for dessert ($3).
The total bill was $46.08 including tip.
Stopped for lunch on the recombination of friends. Impressed with the quality and preparation of our meals. Surprised to get a complete meal of this level for less than $10. Service was very friendly and very attentive to our needs. I had Dolphin on a bed of fresh spinach with fire roasted red peppers, marinated asparagus, bleu cheese crumbles, bacon crumbles and tomato wedges
Favorite Dish: Dolphin on a bed of fresh spinach
A little pricey, but not bad . . . Very satisfying food, kind of like Mom's home cooking . . . The same people who own this place also own Little Italy at MM 68.5
Favorite Dish: We had burgers for lunch and the fresh catch of the day for dinner . . . both were very good
You can fly directly into the Marathon airport or the Key West airport, but it is quite expensive . . . I always fly into either Ft. Lauderdale or Miami, (whichever happens to have the best deal at the time) rent a car and then drive down the Keys
A bike is a must for the Key Colony Beach area . . . You will need a car for the Marathon area
Miscellaneous: Before you leave on your trip, go buy a copy of 'Key West & The Florida Keys' second edition by June Keith . . . It is an absolute must . . . June Keith lives in Key West and will every place in this book is worth a look . . . http://cyberconch.com/june/index.html
Set aside one full day to just get in the car and drive through the Keys . . . Take along your bathing suit, a beach blanket, a cooler and a picnic lunch . . . Many beautiful spots along the road to stop at and enjoy and neat shops to explore . . . Don't forget to keep an eye out for the adorable tiny Key Deer between MM 29 and 33
Enjoy each and every spectacular sunset . . . Go flats fishing . . . Seek out and make friends with all the friendly people . . . Slow down and enjoy life at it's absolute best!
Fondest memory: Watching my husband pull in that prize winning Tarpon (catch and release, of course) . . . Loading my bike basket and heading to the beach . . . Paying homage to the great sunsets
