Favorite thing: All the time we lived in Key West, we never went to Mallory Square of the sunset. But now it is a big thing and something that is unique to Key West. We have now been three times.

The first time there was a spectacular sunset - the golden sun reflected on the clouds. There was a tattooed lady who swallowed fire, and a man hanging upside down in a strait jacket

Most of the time the cruise ships leave before sunset so that they don't block the view from the square, but once when it was too rough to get into Grand Cayman the ship came to Key West early and we got to see the celebrations from above. We saw the man who had trained cats, and the unicycle rider who juggled fire batons.

And when my sister came down for a week in a condo we brought her down to see the celebrations there. I have to say that this last time, not only the sunset but the entertainment was all substandard. There was a sword swallower, and a juggler on a tightrope.

Fondest memory: The narratives of our trip by car in 2005 is under the Florida Keys along with photos of the Truman White House grounds, Key West street scenes, and more photos of the Oldest House.

Favorite thing: Mallory Square is the best place to view the beautiful sunset. Take care, you won't be alone to watch the sun going down, while thousands of tourists from all over the world will be there with you to celebrate. Enjoy ;-)

    Sunset at Key West

Favorite thing: At the end of the afternoon, people come from everywhere in Key west like a wave on Duval Street to attend the spectacle of the sun set at Mallory Square.
A lot of acrobates are there to make the people patient.
We have liked the show with cats because it is very difficult to use these animals in a show, theye are too unrully.

Favorite thing: Each evening 45 min before the sunset, a crowd goes up Duval Street in the East direction. The people gather on Mallory Square to attend one of the world most beautiful sunset.
Acrobats and street vendors are also there (and some pickpockets I guess) to make the waiting more pleasant.
When the sun dives into the ocean, the people shout and applaud.

Favorite thing: The Sunset Festival at Mallory Square is a must do. The whole area is full of street performers who work for tips. They had one guy hanging upside down wrapped in chains. He was supposed to get himself out (I never saw him do it).

We also saw lots of steet musicians, jugglers and firebreathers. And of course things wouldn't be complete without panhandlers.

The sunset times are published in the local papers.

Fondest memory: My favorite part of the Sunset Festival was getting a rum runner (151 Bacardi, Blackberry Brandy, and Banana Liquor) and sitting at an outdoor patio watching the sunset.

Sunset In Key West - Mallory Square

Favorite thing: Either from a pier or the beach. Watch the sunset. It is beautiful. You'll have lots of company, everyone watches the sunsets. When the sun finally sinks below the horizon, most often people will even applaud the beautiful show that Mother Nature just gave.

Fondest memory: I simply love biking around the Keys. I love looking at all of the houses, shopping in the galleries on Duval Street and getting soap at Key West Aloe. A great vacation is guaranteed in Key West. I always come home trying to figure out how to afford a house in the Keys -- I would love to make Key West my permanent residence.

This is what you'll see. --Mallory Square

Favorite thing: It's the thing to do and often there are street performers that really rock!

Fondest memory: I try to catch Fantasy Fest every year. Just when it is getting cold around the US, the weather is just perfect in Key West. Here's a picture of my two friends at Mallory Square. Beautiful sunsets, shirts optional.

Favorite thing: Go to Mallory Square and watch a Sunset!!!

Fondest memory: I love everything except the cost after December 15th - hotels etc. double in price! Best time to go is November and December because it's cheaper and not as crowded.

Fondest memory: Most advertised sunset in the US!

Every evening people gather on the western beach of Key West to watch the sunset, to add some drama to the picture there seems to be a one-boat-minimum.

by wvdeedee Updated Aug 24, 2002

Favorite thing: first to do is to go to see the sunset ceremony. Take the Conch train ride for a quick overview of the city. Leave most of your clothes at home, VERY casual. Key West is an
attitude. Almost total freedom. I'm a grandmother so I have some built in attitudes.

Fondest memory: The beautiful water, the temperatures and the the balmy nights with the bright moon.
