Captain Bob's is located on the east side of US1 about a mile from downtown Key West. This is not your typical outdoors or on the water establishment. The interior is dark and the walls are covered with seafaring memorabilia. Its more known for its reasonably priced seafood and steaks than its atmosphere.
The steaks are supposed to be pretty good, but I'd recommend conch fritters and the catch of the day. As with most restaurants in the keys, Captain Bob's has its own key lime pie recipe and its supposed to be the best in the Keys, although that's a tough statement to back up in this area.
Although the billboard outside of Captain Bob's Grill-Steak has attractive prices (at this time it says 2 lobster tails and prime rib $17.95), the sanitation and healthfulness of the food is suspect, service is not attentive, it smells bad (although maybe that's just the food), and a man I presume is Captain Bob glowers at the diners from his corner.
Favorite Dish:
I talked to some folks who came to Key West for the first time, and they said they'd picked the Holiday Inn to stay at because they didn't know about the parking problems they'd have downtown. On their first night in town they were trying to find a place to eat and thought this looked like a good deal. I asked them if they liked it and they answered with a resounding NO. He said he wouldn't feed the food to his cats. She said the waiter was weird, the service was terrible, and by the time they left the bill was well over $50.
