Kelley's Bar and Grill ha two claims to fame: it was founded by actress Kelly McGillis, star of 1980s hit movies Top Gun and The Witness, and it was the original home of Pan American Airlines when the company was founded in 1927.

We were traveling between Fort Taylor and the Audubon House, and decided to stop here for lunch. We sat at the big triangular bar and started with a wheat beer, brewed here at the Southernmost brewery, and a red ale ($4 per beer). Later I also tried their golden ale; all of the beers were pretty average. For our lunches we had a shrimp salad ($11) and a fish po'boy ($11), both meals were pretty tasty.

Service was laid back, but some would call it slow.

Kelly's in Key West is a great place to visit. Not only is the food very good, but you can dine outdoors under the palms trees and surrounded by lush tropical foliage. The perfect place to dine at in Key West. Don't miss.

  • Kelly's Carribean Grill: Poor Management = Bad Experience

by sanderstorm Updated Jul 9, 2008

The ambiance and general feel of the place was fun - old house pretty gardens. The restaurant was serving a wedding that night which meant we waited 2 hours for our food, my sister-in-laws meal came 15 minutes after the others. We ordered a whole extra round of drinks before we saw our appetizers and a whole extra round of wine before our dinners. The management insisted that we had a good dining experience because we consumed everything we ordered and took a meager 10% off of a very expensive bill for 'somewhat' slow service. We were saddened to learn that Kelly's does not live by the time honored standard's of customer service.

Favorite Dish: The macadamia encrusted group was yummy, but my dish was taken away half eaten since I spent half the meal trying to get the manager's attention because our service was so crummy. It would have been nice to finish my meal and not spend such a lovely evening trying to convince stone faced management that our service was unsatisfactory.

Kelly's Bar-Grill: Great Location and Ambiance

Kellys Carribean Bar serves carribean themed dishes which are mostly seafood. The restaraund is set in a coverted house and the eating area is outside in a beautiful garden with tall palm trees with lights. Its a perfect place to go when the weather is good outside, especially at night.

Favorite Dish: My favorite dish was the coconut shrimp and key lime pie for desert, the pie was not as tart as others that i have had in the past but the shrimp is a must try. Fried plantains were also served along with the dish. The conch fritters where served in a hush puppy like concoction with dipping sauce

In 2004, we were walking between the Oldest House/Wrecker's Museum and the Truman White House, and this was on the corner with the first Pan Am office. We didn't stop to eat because it looked like (from the sign) that it was more of a drinking establishment than an eating establishment. Kelly (I had no idea who she was, but apparently she is an actress who was in Top Gun) has a restaurant in the old TWA building.

In 2005, after we got finished with Audubon House and the Customs House, we had some time left on our meter. Bob put another quarter in (for another 15 minutes) and we had lunch at Kelly's. The servers were attentive, and tattooed

The restaurant occupies the original home of Pan American Airways

Favorite Dish: Bob had the pork bbq sandwich, which came with fries and cole slaw for $8.95, and I had conch fritters which were very spicy and didn't come with anything for $5.95. It was $16.02 before tip.

    Kelly's Bar and Grill

Kelly's Caribbean Bar and Grill, which is located at Whitehead Street, occupies the original home of Pan American Airways. It is owned by actress Kelly McGillis and her husband. It is a lovely place to eat. It has a beautiful garden where you can eat. There are also inside tables so if you prefer to dine inside, than that is possible. Kelly’s keeps its charm with an easy-going taste of the Island cuisine.
