Relaxing on the boat after a day of snorkling by sunlovey In my humble opinion there is no better way to spend a day in the Keys than renting a boat from Mango Pango and setting out for a day of sun, snorkeling and frolicking in the middle of the warm turquoise Atlantic Ocean with friends. I suggest that you stop at Publix Supermarket on your way and pick up sub sandwiches from the deli, a couple bags of chips, some fruit, some soda and some corona for your picnic out on the sea. Mango Pango has a number of boats in various sizes depending upon how many are in your party; you can rent for a 1/2 or whole day. I suggest a whole of course. They have snorkling gear you can rent too if you don't have your own equipment. DO NOT forget your sunscreen. Boats cost from $99-$229 for a half day $189-$359 for a whole day And they are worth every penny for such a great experience on your own. They give you maps that direct you to the best snorkling spots. Leave a Comment

This is one of the boats in Key West with a glass bottom. This is one of the larger ones, the day we went it wasn't so crowded. Despite the fact it wasn't that warm, during the trip to the reef it felt very nice on the deck. When we arrived at the reef we went down to see through the bottom....unfortunalty the water was a bit unclear because of the storm yesterday as we were told... But last year we went on the Nautilus and did see more even when the sun was behind clouds so we think you should choose the Nautilus when the weather has been or is not optimal. The Nautilus is more spectacular because you are seated underneath the water line. Here on the pride there's also some distance between the window and you. This is a great trip for everyone! I was worried I may not be able to see that well, but it is amazing how clear you can see! Check my travelogue titled "Under da Sea" for more photos of the reef as seen through the glass bottom boat. The company we went through was through the Fury Company, boat name was "Pride of Key West". There is another company, but thier name escapes me at the moment. Discovery maybe? Anyway, we went with Fury because it was $10.00 cheaper. Directions: The booth and take off point is at the very end of Duval street.

One of the racing boats by grandmaR There are many boating activities in Key West. * Some people come by cruise ship. * Some folks trailer their own boats down to go fishing or diving. * Some people charter fishing boats. (go to Garrison Bight) * Some go out on the glass-bottom boat. * Some come and take sailing lessons. * Some take dive or snorkeling trips. For us of course, the best way to come is on your own sailboat. You bring your accommodations with you - your own bed, your own galley. And you can eat meals as cheaply as at home in your own cockpit or at your own table. But you are still in Key West, seeing the sunsets and experiencing the ambience. When we came down in January 2001, we found that there is another way to experience Key West by boat. The sailboat races. This is a Premiere Event - hotly contested by professional sailors. You can't live on these boats - they are stripped to the bare bones. You can bring your boat and go out and watch (or you can see them from Ft. Taylor with good binoculars). You can even charter a boat. Race dates are January 17 - 21, 2005. If you plan to be in Key West during this time be sure to nail down your reservations for hotel or marina and rental cars because the town is packed with sailors at this time. Boats from Roosevelt Blvd by grandmaR One of the things that people like to do in Key West is to get out on the water. Chartering a fishing boat is one way to do that. When we lived in Key West, Garrison Bight was the place where all the charter fishing boats were. Fishing is not my thing, so I haven't done that. the boat "Amazing Grace" by Ericasmurf99 The tour group I went with was called "Captain Sheri's Wild about Dolphins". Sightings are usually pretty good, but alas we didn't see any dolphins that day. I still recommend her though because she felt bad and offered me another trip. Most companies would not have done that. Snorkling, snorkle gear, food, towels, sunscreen, and wet suits are all included. We took the 11 a.m. Sunny Days snorkeling trip on the Cruzan Cat primarily because it was the cheapest one we could find that did not require us to drive 30 miles to the state park. Turned out to be a very good decision. It was a small group of 15 people. As other tours typically go out at 9 and 2, we were the only ones out on the reef. We did two reef stops w/ about 45 minutes at each one. It was unusually choppy that day but we were able to snorkel just fine. The first stop was good but the second was great! While I have seen more variety in some places in the Caribbean, I have never seen the quantity of fish we saw at the second stop on this trip. Instead of just a fish here and there, it was schools of tropical fish all around you. The captain, Graham, and the lifeguard, Teresa, made sure we had a great time. They provided lots of soft drinks. Leave a Comment

Parasailing at Smathers Beach by Ericasmurf99 Fly high above Key West! Get the bird's eye view! Head to Smather's beach and book a flight at the SunSet Watersports booth (the only one there, can't miss). Morning times are always cheaper than afternoon flights. Directions: Booths at Smathers Beach or Historic Seaport

by Ericasmurf99 There are so many companies that offer jet ski trips. Just walk around downtown or near a beach and you will find a place. I can't remember the company we rode with, but I am sure they are all the same.
