Margaritaville, Key West
Margaritaville is the biggest tourist trap. Everyone seems to associate Key West with Margaritaville. Unless Jimmy Buffet himself will be playing at the bar, which can happen, it’s not worth the money to eat there or purchase a souvenir to show everyone you actually went. The food is overpriced and after checking out the menu, the food is the same as every other restaurant in Key West, there isn’t anything special about the food or the drinks, just the creative names each dish has been given.
Stay for the free music.
Unique Suggestions: If you are planning to go anyways, I suggest bringing your camera and take pictures instead of eating or purchasing a souvenir. Your picture will last a lot longer than the food and you will not regret the picture as much as the added item you just purchased with no real use to you. Actually, because the food is so high in fat and calories, it might last a little longer than you want.
Fun Alternatives: If you find a souvenir that you think you need to buy, wait. Walk around Key West and look at all the other gift shops first. You will find the same one for a cheaper price or you might find something better. Don’t make a decision right away, most people decide not to buy a souvenir after things about is for a day. Don’t feel the pressure to buy.
Margaritaville is something every parrothead feels like they need to see, but for 15.00, your stomach will still be grumbling when you realize how pathetic your cheeseburger in paradise really is. Go across the street to Jack Flats and get enough food for three when ordering just one dish, plus a great beer. Go visit and have a margarita, but save meal time for somewhere with food that gives key west its true flavor.
Unique Suggestions: Just get a frozen drink.
Jimmy Buffett's own.... After visiting the other wonderful Margaritavilles in Orlando, Montego Bay and a few others, this original was a bit disappointing. Even in the off season the service in this cramped hole of a restraunt was extremely slow. Nice for the nostalgia, but I'm not sure that Jimmy would spend much time here himself, there are plenty of other unique restraunts on the island. The $9 hamburger wasn't paradise for my wallett.
