Garden Bistro: Lovely after a walk around Lake Mirror

After a walk in the winter sunshine around Lake Mirror and Hollis Garden we thought it was time for something to eat for lunch. We had spotted the Garden Bistro when we had first started our walk and decided to give it a try. We thought it was going to be expensive but it was reasonably priced. We were just going to have coffee and cake but decided to have lunch instead. We both settled for burgers but each had a different accompaniment. The meal was well presented and tasted better than the usual well known fast food outlets. The place was busy with a number of seniors who appeared to be regular customers. You can sit by the windows and look out over Lake Mirror or sit outside if you prefer. The service was quick and friendly, with no pressure to rush and I understand there is free Wi-Fi but never tried it out.

Sonny's Real Pit Bar-B-Q: Do you like barbeque?

by RhondaRuth Updated Jul 9, 2003
    Eat in or Drive up!

We had barbeque pulled pork sandwiches here. They were good, but not the best around. They did have a great salad bar though with friendly and helpful people waiting on us.

Favorite Dish: This was my first time here and I only had the pulled pork and salad. Maybe we'll try their famous "baby back ribs" next time!

Roadhouse Grill: Want a Good Steak?

by RhondaRuth Updated Jul 9, 2003
    Entering the Roadhouse Grill

The place to go for delicious food, exceptional service and a casual dining atmosphere. They give you a bucket of "all you can eat" peanuts in the shell and "all you can eat" yeast rolls. There was also a bucket for the shells, but you'll find shells on the floor also. Our meals were not only delicious but we were served with a "smile".
Nice people! We'll go there again when we visit Lakeland.

Favorite Dish: Expect the average entrée to cost from $8 to $12.
We had steaks and they were great!

Peso's: Afficianados of Mexican food -- check this out!

by CLBoyd Written Oct 30, 2007

While the decor is not fancy, the Mexican fare at Peso's is exceptional at both of its Lakeland locations (one on South Florida Avenue just south of the Polk Parkway, the other on George Jenkins Boulevard just east of the Publix warehouses and plants). Authentic Mexican fare at reasonable prices! Terrific burritos and chimichangas, very good fajitas, and classic Mexican dishes like Menudo and mole. The flan is a great ending to a good meal!

Favorite Dish: Danny's Burrito is the ultimate burrito ... chock full of tender meat and cheese with an enchilada-style sauce ... and it's HUGE!

    Fred's Market: Feast on down-home Southern-style food at Fred's!

by CLBoyd Written Oct 30, 2007

Fred's Market provides a great spread of Southern-style food in a pleasant atmosphere and at a reasonable price. Buffet choices change daily but include entrees like fried chicken, BBQ ribs, fried catfish, chicken and dumplings, pot roast, meat loaf; sides include Southern-style veggies such as collard greens, okra and tomatoes, potato casserole, black-eye peas, and pole beans. A great salad bar and soups and a dessert bar are included with the buffet, and you can drink gallons of sweet tea with your meal. The breakfast buffet is always good here and costs about the same as a fast food breakfast at McDonald's! Save room for the great Southern-style fruit cobblers and the freshly baked yeast rolls and cornbread.

Favorite Dish: The BBQ ribs are AWESOME -- they are made with a dry spice rub and so tender that the meat falls off the bones. BBQ sauce is available on the side, but it is not necessary -- the ribs are that succulent by themselves! Honorable mention goes to the Southern-style fried chicken -- moist and tender, never greasy!
