  • Lovely after a walk around Lake Mirror

After a walk in the winter sunshine around Lake Mirror and Hollis Garden we thought it was time for something to eat for lunch. We had spotted the Garden Bistro when we had first started our walk and decided to give it a try. We thought it was going to be expensive but it was reasonably priced. We were just going to have coffee and cake but decided...

  • Do you like barbeque?

We had barbeque pulled pork sandwiches here. They were good, but not the best around. They did have a great salad bar though with friendly and helpful people waiting on us. This was my first time here and I only had the pulled pork and salad. Maybe we'll try their famous "baby back ribs" next time!

New Years celebration is a big event in The Lakeland Newly Renovated Downtown area.
While visiting Lakeland, my old home town, I was shocked to run into my old swim friend, Mike Chin.
Mike is from The Bronx, New York and was working as a Police Officer in the Bronx and came to Lakeland to join the Lakeland Police department.
Mike and I spent hours in the Family Y Pool doing very tedious swim workouts together.
Mike is still working as a police officer in Lakeland.

Lakeland Shopping

Lakeside Village is an open-air shopping center located at the northwest corner of S. Harden Blvd. and the Polk Parkway. There are a number of fine upscale shops, numerous restaurants, and a great multi-screen cinema. This is not your average shopping mall! The shops are centered by a village-like atmosphere, and there are several free-standing stores around the central core. One can do serious damage to your credit cards here!

What to buy: There are many shops worth attention, particularly Kirklands, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Kohl's. Among the restaurants are locations of several popular chains, including Chili's, Longhorn Steakhouse, Mimi's, Romano's Macaroni Grille, Starbucks, Abuelo's.

What to pay: You can spend as much as you want or just window-shop or browse the many stores.

Cleveland Heights Golf Course is located in the city limits just south of Lake Hollingsworth off Cleveland Heights Blvd. The course was created in the 1920's as part of residential development associated with the real estate boom of that era; it was acquired by the City of Lakeland as a municipally owned and operated golf course. The course is well maintained and offers a challenge to the golfer. The course is the site of several professional golf events, in particular LPGA women's events.
