Robbie's Rent-A-Boat is located at the northern tip of Lower Matecumbe Key - the closest tour operator or boat rental facility to both Lignumvitae and Indian Keys. Because of the proximity to the islands and our long commitment to helping people visit them, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Recreation and Parks has chosen them as their official boat tour operator
The boat runs to the island twice daily, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Thursday through Monday, from Robbie's Marina, mile marker 77.5 bayside in Islamorada. Fee is $15.
Robbie's is very well known for tarpon viewing ($1 each) and feeding ($2 each) at their docks, there is a restaurant called the Hungry Tarpon, and as their name suggests, they rent boats. They can supply fishing gear and bait (even if you don't want to feed the tarpon with it). You can also rent kayaks and motorized craft, or organize a deep-sea fishing expedition.
The only facility of its kind in the world, the Florida National High Adventure Sea Base is scoutings most complete aquatic facility for older Boy Scouts from age 14 to 18. The goal of the facility is to introduce scouts to America's only living coral reef. They offer various "Adventures"

.. at three locations - the Abacos, the Brinton Environmental Center at MM 24 and this facility at MM 73.8.
We visited Sea Base because one of our friends who has a boat similar to ours has donated his boat and time to the Sea Base adventures.
Apparently MM 73.8 the lower end of Lower Matecumbe Key is the site of Caloosa Cove Marina 305-664-4455 & Tackle Shop and Resort. 305-664-8811 Reservations: 800-695-8284.
I have not stayed at the resort. The 30 rooms at the resort range from $155 to $225 per night. There is a lounge and a restaurant on site plus other restaurants nearby, 2 lighted tennis courts, heated pool, shuffleboard courts and bbq area, fishing, snorkeling, boat and bike rental.
The 40 slip marina is located Oceanside on the southwest tip of Lower Matecumbe Key. Facilities include dockage (up to 70') with water and electricity (110V or 220V), storage with in and out service for boats up to 24 feet. Parts and Ships Store, Service Center, Bait & Tackle Shop, sail or power craft rentals, gasoline & diesel.
Fondest memory: We went up to Lower Matecumbe Key to visit a friend's boat and we also found out what SeaBase was. We had visited another friend on their boat in Marathon first, and after I had taken about 3 rolls of film and taken a multitude of digital pictures of their boats, we got back in the car for our trip back to Marathon.
We tried to stop and eat on Lower Matecumbe Key, but the only restaurant we saw was closed, but Bob did stop here at this hardware store to check if he could get a small part that he needed.
Then we went on down to Grassy Key and ate lunch at Little Italy.
