    Canal at Knights Key

There are campgrounds in Marathon. It is not necessary to go to Bahia Honda as other Marathon tips suggest.

We see this campground from the stern of our boat - it looks like the campers are cheek by jowl. But my SIL had the boy scouts here, and he refused to consider it for his family.

Bahia Honda has two camping areas. One is very open and located near the marina, and convenient for RVs. The other camping area, at Sandspur Beach, offers shade and sites separated by dense growth and further away from busy US 1.

This is the last state park with camping before you reach Key West. You can camp in the wide open spaces or in the hardwood hammock at Sandspur Beach.
