    Driving Range

by grandmaR Updated Mar 18, 2004
Driving Range from Marathon Pasta and Pizza

Across from the Sombrero Resort and next to the road and the Golf Course is a driving range. There is netting from the top of the chain link fence up to the level of the power and telephone lines. We saw someone picking up the balls with a kind of ball sweeper machine while we were eating dinner. I can't find anything out about it on the internet.

Key Colony Beach Golf and Tennis

Golf course in the evening behind restaurant

This is one of two public golf courses in the Keys. The other one is on Stock Island next to Key West.

Equipment: This short par 3 course has small greens. The fairways are generous because there is no rough. There are no water hazards, but bunkers do come into play. The signature hole is #8, a 121-yard, par 3, which plays to an elevated green with a flat top. Ladies tee off from the same set as the men.

9 Holes and Fairways: Bermuda Grass

    Tee Information:
    Par Yardage
    54 1924

    Greens Fees: $20 or Less
    Course Type: public
Dress Code: Shirt and shoes required
    Season: Open all year

    Sombrero Country Club

    Golf course at Sombrero

This is one of two golf courses in Marathon (one more than Key West has) but it is a private course, not open to the public. I do not know if it is open to the guests at the resort or not.

Equipment: This course is on terrain that is only six inches above sea level. Marl, a sand-based substance, makes up the soil content on this course.

    Holes and Fairways: Bermuda Grass

    Tee Information:
Tee Par Yardage Course Rating Slope
    Back Tees 71 6469 70.6 127
    Middle Tees 71 6116 69 122
    Forward Tees 72 5291 70.8 121

    Greens Fees: $20-$49
    Course Type: private
Dress Code: No denim, collared shirt and bermuda shorts required
    Season: Open all year
    Guest Policy: Closed
