Marco Island Things to Do

  • Hit the Beach

Clean sand, nice water, good waves; this is a nice beach. I enjoyed being at this beach; it was never crowded. Sitting back, relaxing with a book or going in the water was very enjoyable here.

  • Pool Time

I love that the pool at my MIL's condo is heated. During our visit we had some windy weather whcih made it seem alot colder than it was. Having a heated pool made going in the pool alot nicer. I enjoyed sitting on a beach chair at the pool relaxing or taking a dip in the pool.

We wound up at Porky's BBQ by accident. We were out and about all day and were starving and needed a bite to eat when we came upon this place. My MIL said she had always wanted to try it out with my FIL and they never managed to get here for a meal. We decided to eat here and see what they had to offer. When we got inside the place was jammed. The...

  • A Little Light on the Nightlife

There's not really much to do at night. The area around Captain Brian's is okay with a few restaurants and bars, but not really what I would call a 'happening' area. I'd recommend you grab a big bottle of your favorite libation, grill out down by the beach, and then either hang out at the beach or by a pool. Nothing but a swimsuit if you do the...

Take a Flight to Fort Meyers

    by cjg1 Written Apr 16, 2015

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The best way for us to get to Marco Island is flying to Fort Meyers then driving the forty five minutes to Marco. We usually fly out of HPN and either transit through Charlotte or DCA before on to Fort Meyers.

Alvins' Island is one of the big souvenir shops in Marco Island. They have every type of souvenir: toys, magnets, glasses, towels, tee shirts, sweat shirts; etc. The prices are very reasonable with most tee shirts being $12.99 and sweatshirts being 2 for $20. We bought a few tee shirts for ourselves here as well as some for the folks back home.

Marco Island Tourist Traps

  • Don't stay at the Expensive Chain...

If you are planning to visit Marco Island, I reccomend not staying at any of the large chain hotels at the shouthern end of the island. Although they will offer a long list of 'features' your overall stay will not be as enjoyable and here's why.- They are for the most part old- There is lots of construction going on at the south end- Due to...

  • Fly into Ft. Lauderdale or Miami to save

Southwest Florida, Naples, and Marco Island airports can be very expensive especially at peak times to fly into. Especially if you book late. If you are planning on visiting Marco Island or the surrounding area, it is...

Marco Island What to Pack

    Don't forget....

by senoritamc Written Jul 11, 2005

Luggage and bags: Pack extra bags for souvenirs which are actually cheap in most stores. For example the Walgreens there sells alot of Marco Island stuff and I found a dollar mart on the way to goodland that had a lot of Marco island and goodland stuff.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Don't forget your flipflops, many bathing suits, and lots of shorts. Don't worry about dressing out to go out. You will most likely always be overdressed.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Good sun screen.

Photo Equipment: Lots of film or a digital with lots of memory.

Parasailing boat picking up flyers at Marco Beach. It is a lot of fun, but not wthout it's danges. I remember one time this lady was flying the parachute when the tether broke. She flew inland over the hotels and was lucky enough to land in one of the inland canals of the island. She survived, but I am sure has neede lots of therapy.

Equipment: Boat and parachute, little common sence, a sence of adventure, a few dollars.
