Marco Island Restaurants

  • Good Crunchy French Toast

Doreen's Cup of Joe is a local place that my MIL frequents for breakfast. This is a popular place and small; so get here early and prepare to wait for a table. We came here early one morning around 9am and had a twenty five minute wait for a table but the food is worth the wait in my opinion. We were seated at a table outside the restaurant under a...

  • Freshest Seafood on Island

Spectacular display of nautical decor. My kids love the fish on the walls and fresh raw bar at the door. They enjoyed watching the oyster shucker crack open hundreds of oysters. It was like free entertainment for the family. Try the Macadamia Mahi mahi it has an incredible mango salsa ontop of it. We ate here twice and got a complimentary onion...

  • A Little Light on the Nightlife

There's not really much to do at night. The area around Captain Brian's is okay with a few restaurants and bars, but not really what I would call a 'happening' area. I'd recommend you grab a big bottle of your favorite libation, grill out down by the beach, and then either hang out at the beach or by a pool. Nothing but a swimsuit if you do the...

Marco Island Shopping

  • Shoe Shopping

Georgie's is a shop my wife and her Mom did some damage in when off shopping. Georgie's is a small boutique carrying women's shoes, clothing and accesories. A bag in the store window brought my wife and my Mother in Law into the store. Five pairs of shoes later they emergered with bags in hand. My wife found a nice pair of black heeled sandals...

  • Souvenir Shopping

Alvins' Island is one of the big souvenir shops in Marco Island. They have every type of souvenir: toys, magnets, glasses, towels, tee shirts, sweat shirts; etc. The prices are very reasonable with most tee shirts being $12.99 and sweatshirts being 2 for $20. We bought a few tee shirts for ourselves here as well as some for the folks back home.

  • great boutique

I found a new shop on the Island called Beach Daisy. It was so refreshing to not be in a junky beach shop and a boutique that focuses on natural fibers and unique jewelry and clothing. They understand customer service also. I accidentally bought the wrong size for my daughter and they shipped out the correct size to me asap. I bought a line of...

Marco Island lends itself to sunbathing on the long white sand beaches. Cooling off generally means a dip in the shallow waters surrounding the island. Just be careful, there are sting rays in them there waters. If one of these normally placid fellers gets you, you,re in for some pain.

  • Shell beach

Marco's beach sand consists on a large part by broken shells. These can get very sharp. If you are going to do a lot of walking and have tender feet, bring water shoes or sandals.

Marco Island Tourist Traps

  • Don't stay at the Expensive Chain...

If you are planning to visit Marco Island, I reccomend not staying at any of the large chain hotels at the shouthern end of the island. Although they will offer a long list of 'features' your overall stay will not be as enjoyable and here's why.- They are for the most part old- There is lots of construction going on at the south end- Due to...

  • Fly into Ft. Lauderdale or Miami to save

Southwest Florida, Naples, and Marco Island airports can be very expensive especially at peak times to fly into. Especially if you book late. If you already have tickets, hopefully you booked early and got a good price, but you can call your airline and try to switch it. If you are planning on visiting Marco Island or the surrounding area, it is...

Marco Island What to Pack

Luggage and bags: Pack extra bags for souvenirs which are actually cheap in most stores. For example the Walgreens there sells alot of Marco Island stuff and I found a dollar mart on the way to goodland that had a lot of Marco island and goodland stuff.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Don't forget your flipflops, many bathing suits, and lots of shorts. Don't worry about dressing out to go out. You will most likely always be overdressed.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Good sun screen.

Photo Equipment: Lots of film or a digital with lots of memory.

Marco Island Off The Beaten Path

  • Manatees

Just outside Marco Island near Naples, Florida ( West Coast) if you are looking for a natural diversion take a manatee tour with Captain Barry. The tour aboard his six passenger vessel guarantees that you will see manatees. The very best part of this tour though and why I recommend Captain Barry to you is because of his very...

  • Visit the only Public Beach - Protected...

If you don't have beach access on Marco Island, or are just coming for a day trip, the beach to go to is Tigertail Beach. It is on an inlet and is protected from the surf on the outer beach. If you prefer the waves however, you can easily walk to anywhere on the entire beach. This beach is great for little kids who can enjoy wading in the warmer...

  • Feed the Pelicans

The man on the left of the picture, is cleaning his catch while the Pelicans, or Florida turkeys as we lovingly call them, wait patiently below for scraps. Any given day you will find as many pelicans as fishermen on the pier. They are really funny. If you go fishing, donot discard unused old fishing line in the environment. Pack it well and place...

She flew inland over the hotels and was lucky enough to land in one of the inland canals of the island. She survived, but I am sure has neede lots of therapy.

Equipment: Boat and parachute, little common sence, a sence of adventure, a few dollars.

Marco Island Favorites

  • Beaches are so Beautiful

If you visit Marco Island, the main attraction is the beach, so plan to spend time there. The beaches are bright white and have lots of shells, as well as gentle but sometimes large waves. If it is before a storm the waves will be bigger and more fun. Also, ther is a sandbar which runs parallel to the beach about 100yds out, which you can walk to...

  • A few tips on cleaning shells

Before taking live shells, consider the cleaning process and the fact that it is prohibited in some areas.
