Spectacular display of nautical decor. My kids love the fish on the walls and fresh raw bar at the door. They enjoyed watching the oyster shucker crack open hundreds of oysters. It was like free entertainment for the family. Try the Macadamia Mahi mahi it has an incredible mango salsa ontop of it. We ate here twice and got a complimentary onion...more

There's not really much to do at night. The area around Captain Brian's is okay with a few restaurants and bars, but not really what I would call a 'happening' area. I'd recommend you grab a big bottle of your favorite libation, grill out down by the beach, and then either hang out at the beach or by a pool. Nothing but a swimsuit if you do the...more
I found a new shop on the Island called Beach Daisy. It was so refreshing to not be in a junky beach shop and a boutique that focuses on natural fibers and unique jewelry and clothing. They understand customer service also. I accidentally bought the wrong size for my daughter and they shipped out the correct size to me asap. I bought a line of...more

Public and private beach accesses are found on Gulf Shore Boulevard. It is important to know which is which. Tiger Beach has public access.
Marco Island lends itself to sunbathing on the long white sand beaches. Cooling off generally means a dip in the shallow waters surrounding the island. Just be careful, there are sting rays in them there waters. If one of these normally placid fellers gets you, you,re in for some pain.more

If you are planning to visit Marco Island, I reccomend not staying at any of the large chain hotels at the shouthern end of the island. Although they will offer a long list of 'features' your overall stay will not be as enjoyable and here's why.- They are for the most part old- There is lots of construction going on at the south end- Due to...more
Southwest Florida, Naples, and Marco Island airports can be very expensive especially at peak times to fly into. Especially if you book late. If you already have tickets, hopefully you booked early and got a good price, but you can call your airline and try to switch it. If you are planning on visiting Marco Island or the surrounding area, it is...more
Luggage and bags:
Pack extra bags for souvenirs which are actually cheap in most stores. For example the Walgreens there sells alot of Marco Island stuff and I found a dollar mart on the way to goodland that had a lot of Marco island and goodland stuff.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Don't forget your flipflops, many bathing suits, and lots of shorts. Don't worry about dressing out to go out. You will most likely always be overdressed.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Good sun screen.
Photo Equipment: Lots of film or a digital with lots of memory.
Just outside Marco Island near Naples, Florida ( West Coast) if you are looking for a natural diversion take a manatee tour with Captain Barry. www.see-manatees.com The tour aboard his six passenger vessel guarantees that you will see manatees. The very best part of this tour though and why I recommend Captain Barry to you is because of his very...more
If you don't have beach access on Marco Island, or are just coming for a day trip, the beach to go to is Tigertail Beach. It is on an inlet and is protected from the surf on the outer beach. If you prefer the waves however, you can easily walk to anywhere on the entire beach. This beach is great for little kids who can enjoy wading in the warmer...more
The man on the left of the picture, is cleaning his catch while the Pelicans, or Florida turkeys as we lovingly call them, wait patiently below for scraps. Any given day you will find as many pelicans as fishermen on the pier. They are really funny. If you go fishing, donot discard unused old fishing line in the environment. Pack it well and place...more
Parasailing boat picking up flyers at Marco Beach. It is a lot of fun, but not wthout it's danges. I remember one time this lady was flying the parachute when the tether broke. She flew inland over the hotels and was lucky enough to land in one of the inland canals of the island. She survived, but I am sure has neede lots of therapy.
Equipment: Boat and parachute, little common sence, a sence of adventure, a few dollars.
If you visit Marco Island, the main attraction is the beach, so plan to spend time there. The beaches are bright white and have lots of shells, as well as gentle but sometimes large waves. If it is before a storm the waves will be bigger and more fun. Also, ther is a sandbar which runs parallel to the beach about 100yds out, which you can walk to...more
Before taking live shells, consider the cleaning process and the fact that it is prohibited in some areas. If you do not have access to a cooking facility, it is best to leave live shells behind.Sand dollars should be bleached in half clorox and water for several hours. Some people prefer to dry them in the sun for a week before bleaching them....more
