There is a large population of spanish-speaking people in Miami. Sometimes you will find it difficult to communicate because some don't speak english at all. I recommend to bring along your diccionario de español!!!

Miami is approximately 60% Hispanic. As a result of this Latin American influence, there is a large Spanish speaking population, many of whom speak little or no English. Just something to keep in mind when asking for directions. Its not uncommon to be addressed in Spanish when entering a store or restaurant as the people who work there are used to people coming in and speaking Spanish. But, depending on the area of Miami, most people working in stores/restaurants, etc. do speak English and are willing to helo you out if you do not speak Spanish.

Reckon with the latino-american character of Miami. Spanish is as important as American (a kind of English) and is spooken by a large number of the population. The influence by these Cuban Americans is noticed best in Calla Ocho (8th street), however you better hold on to your wallets as well in some parts of this neighborhood.
