South Beach, Miami
Miami is has a gorgeous coastline and if you get the opportunity to go to the beach, I would recommend one in the South Beach area (off Ocean Drive). Yes, parking can be a royal pain in the butt, but once you find a place, walk over to the beach and just take in the ambience and enjoy people watching, sun bathing or swimming.
Travel to remember. With my dear family to USA. Never before had left the country, but for the 15th birthday of my younger sister my father gave us all a trip to Miami. It was awesome! We flew Aerolineas Argentinas, had never flown before, but my father did and told me that Aerolineas Argentinas was the best company. The flight was quick and cheap, driver genius! We rented a huge truck for all. We went to the hotel, it had a big pool and was beautiful. We toured the beaches and evenings were going shopping. The trip was great and I highly recommend it!
The beach is located between 5th and 7th street and is one of the most happening places in Miami. We stayed at Coral Gabbles hotel from where it is a 5 minute drive to the south beach. There are some good restaurants at the Ocen Drive which is next to the beach. The water is green in color and during the weekends the beach is pretty packed with colorful people. there are lot of clubs on Ocent drive which play great music all the time. We did go to this club called Nikki's Beach Club which has the beach view on the backside. By far the best club i have been to.
South Beach has become a very very fashionable area, well visited and a favourite of the european tourists to Miami. It was not always that way. It had gone from a retirement community for elderly visitors from New York to the hangout for criminals from the Mariel Boatlift to the art deco renovation and the current popularity.
The quality of food has declined over the years and for repeat visitors the charms are less and less..
I am in Miami at least once a month but I avoid the South Beach whenever I can. There are plenty of other places and other things to do, and also lovely places to eat elsewhere withou the pretensions..
No trip to Miami is complete without venturing to South Beach. Although I felt it is a bit overrated, it's still a must-do... if for no other reason than to say you went there. The beach is nice, but it's over-crowded. There are far better beaches on Key Biscayne. The hip vibe walking around all the restaurants, bars and cafes is cool. Not "wow" cool, but still neat. There are a lot of beautiful people walking around and there's touristy shopping, too.
Luckily, I was staying in the South Beach area of Miami. It's a really nice place to be, without too many highrises around. It's a predominantly art-deco area, with nice restaurats, bars, clubs and of course, the beach.
You can hire a bike or rollerblades and ride/roll around too.
When walking along the boulevard at the Art Deco District you'll see OCEAN DRIVE, Miami South Beach. With large beach, long boulevard and a lot of people. So people watch is favourite thing here, which draws the rich and famous, celebrities and beautiful people, like bees to honey, attire to see and be seen. The wide and fine, white sand-covered beaches are popular spots for fashion photo shoots, so you're sure to see fashion crews and famous models posing around. Like we did ... fashion shooting ; -)))
South Beach Miami
Hip and Happenning on Weekends and dead on Weekdays.. If you are planning a trip to South Beach...it has to be only on Weekends and its just 1 big party. You will see the best of bodies and a lot of money on display. The best of Cars I have ever seen in my life are all here.
A visit to Miami is just not complete without a visit to South Beach. While many consider it a tourist trap, South Beach's unique collection of restaurants, bars/clubs and, especially, the people make a visit here something everyone has to do. For a list of places to visit, see my Miami Beach page for a list of nightlife recommendations, or just email me!
Miami Beach is where people bronze themselves on miles of sun-bleached sands by day and partake in the legendary club scene by night. If you are inclined to sightsee, South Beach's Art Deco District contains over 800 buildings in this distinct architectural style, and Ocean Drive is known for its bustling activity and sidewalk cafés. Gleaming skyscrapers and the spirit of progress that has made Miami one of the most dynamic cities in the country characterize downtown, a vibrant business district.
Once you are in Miami Beach, the shore is not far… cross Ocean Drive and voila... the ocean is yours. The beach is beautiful and the water has the colour of a swimming pool. If you like snorkeling, the water is a little bit blurry at first but passed a big sandbar, it is crystal clear and you'll be able to see some critters.
Hopefully for me and my ego, top-models are not here. During the winter and early spring, South Beach looks like a world models gatherings. They even have their own beach volley tournament, volleypalooza, that became kind of a fixture now. Ladies, South Beach is the only public beach I know that allows topless sunbathing. So, if you’re not shy and want to get rid of those tan lines, you know what to do.
The art deco hotels and buildings along Ocean Drive are, of course, not to be missed when visiting Miami! A unique way to check out all the beautiful architecture and beautiful people of South Beach is by renting Segways. Ours were from Electric Rentals. They're very easy to use and maneuver, just remember to follow your guide and to TURN!
