info about getting around the south florida area (palm beach county, broward county, and miami/dade county) by what is evidently a commuter train can be found at -- www.tri-rail.com/schedules_fares/train_schedules.htm. the customer service phone is 800/874-7245.

a website with a "trip planner" option is -- www.sfrtp.cinrtosfl.com for general info -- and -- sfrtp.cinrtosfl.com/hiwire?.a=iTripPlanning&.s=2c2014a1 to enter a specific starting point and destination. what you will get is info on how to get from one place to the other by whatever public transit means are available -- train/bus/whatever.

caution -- i did not try any public transit when i was in this area b/c i found these websites only after i got back!

end.

Yes Yes, I did say you gotta rent a car, even better if it is a convertible. But the parking can be such a pain that walking makes it easier.

1. Hotel valet costs around US$20 and it takes around 15-20mins for the guy to return your car to you.
2. Day parking is available in the public carpark and costs around US$15 for 24hours parking.
3. Meter parking is US$1/hr. 12am-9am is free parking.

	Miami International Airport/Airplane: There is no transit!

The concept of "transit" has not yet made it to Miami. I was flying from Heathrow to Jamaica and had to change planes in Miami. As there is no transit facility I had to go through customs, passport control etc.

And then they had the cheek to tell me I did not have an appropriate passport to enter the USA and put a stamp in it (called parole) meaning I could not use the passport again for the US.

I tried to explain that entering the USA was just about the last thing I would want to do, I just wanted to change planes to get to Jamaica.

They were quite pleasant about as they obviously realise their rules are a bit ridiculous. I thought it was going to end up like the film "Terminal" by Spielberg.

Our uncle was so extremely excited about his 2 week old new Toyatoa SUV. He gave us the presentation and all of the frills, amenities, and discoveries. He explained the digital receiveer, the On star navigation system, and its rack and pinnion stering. Something I got to have and something I really need.

	People mover Down Town: People Mover

This is a single-car self-moving little train which runs above streets. Ride is only 10c, and it goes in a loop which allows you to see the older part of downtown and glimpses of the sea and the more modern area along Brickell. Worth a ride if you have time.

	Taxis: Rush Hour

Don't forget that, although you're on holiday, the rest of Miami isn't, and when trying to get around, it's best to avoid rush hour!

We tried to get to Aventura Mall at around 4:30pm one afternoon and it took us about 30 mins and $50 to get there!

Bus transportation isnt that great in Miami. So, of course, Id recommend that you rent a car if you can. But if you cant, a one -way fare is $1.50 and 50 cents extra for a transfer.

You can also use the Metrobus shuttle for only 25 cents! Very practical in South Beach!

On Metrobus, the fare box accepts tokens, dollar bills, quarters, dimes, and nickels. You can save up if you buy tokens instead.

From Europe we always landed at Miami International Airport (MIA), about 19km (12min) west of downtown. It is the main US/Latin American gateway. Good to know Miami services major European Airlines and best way to fly within the US is from NY airports, I heard, but the New York-Miami route is also the most crowded.

There were times about merely 20 motorhomes could be watched driving to specials spots in Miami, leaving the hotels early in the morning. That was fun, 'cause one area could be "used" by the Elle fashion-, Harper's Bazar- and C&A-crew at the same time. Because of the permits we could drive all around, still there particular areas "not to be photographed" ... (like around the island where all the famous and rich live)
