The restaurant which was recommended to me was absolutely everything promised. It is housed in a restored bungalow with decks and sunporch added to the front of the building to accomodate its present use as a restaurant. I sat inside at the upper level where I could view most of the restaurant...the outer decks and the water beyond. I had a superb dinner...extremely fresh tuna and vegetables prepared by a gourmet chef who truly knows what he's doing. My waiter along with the hostess were friendly and enthusiastic to tell me the history of the house and the transformation to eatery while maintaining many original features. I was absolutely delighted with my dinner and visit.

Though we didn't take this tour, we did go for a boat ride through the DEAD RIVER..
Heritage Nature Tours takes you through Dora Canal and Dead River aboard the "Sea Haven". Their tours depart from the Harbor Side Restaurant. During the tour you will experience " the most beautiful mile of water in the world". The wonderful cyprus-lined Dora Canal waterway is home to otters, turtles, racoons, gators, Herons, Egrets, Osprey, Bald Eagles who live in this magical, unspoiled habitat. I was in awe of all the wonderful nature we saw and I love the look of the cyprus trees with their reflections in the calm waters. Gilbert Park
The son of Dr. C.R. Gilbert, left this property to the city in his will.
Adjacent to Gilbert Park is my favorite Mt Dora venue>Palm Island> replete with a large picnic pavilion, achildren's playground, its famous lighthouse, fishing dock, boat ramp, a small waterfall and one of the most beautiful nature walks in Florida.
This lighthouse guides many boats to Mt Doras shores. I, myself used it offen for reference at dusk when I was out sailing a bit too long and ran out of daylight. Leave a Comment
