The airport at Fort Myers is a delight to fly in and out of...it is small, efficient, and attractive. When we flew in, it took very little time before we had our luggage on a cart and then walked a short distance to rent a car.
We checked our luggage "curb-side" both at O'Hare and at Fort Myers. The man at Fort Meyers was ever so helpful, making it an easy experience. Of course, paying $15.00 each for our first bag, and $25.00 each for our golf bags was not a pleasant experience.
When we were flying out of Fort Myers, it was just as easy. We ate at the airport, shopped in one of the shops for items for the grandchildren, and then were called to board our plane.
Be sure to see the three photographs of the Fort Myers Airport
Of course, having such delightful weather conditions always makes an airport much more desirable!

Southwest Florida International Airport (Ft. Myers) is about an hour's drive north of Naples, and probably your best bet for catching a commercial flight to the general vicinity. Many major airlines fly in to SFIA, including those listed at this link: Airlines At SFIA
There are plenty of car rental agencies conveniently located for pickup/return at the airport. See link below for more specific information.
There is also an airport shuttle service that runs by reservation from RSW to Naples or any other SW Florida destination: Naples Airport Shuttle

For direct commercial flights into Naples Airport, (airport code APF), as far as I know Delta Airlines' flights out of Atlanta are the only options. But you may be able to get on a charter flight with one of the small charter outfits listed here that utilize the airfield:

I've never checked into it for myself, since I always rent a car & drive in from Ft. Myers RSW, Miami MIA, Orlando MCO or Tampa TPA.
For any other questions you may have, the link for the airport is listed below.

We've found that flying into Ft. Myers then driving to Naples (the most common way to get there) is kind of expensive. This year we're going to fly to Tampa on Soutwest and drive from there (about 3 hrs.) We were able to get a special fare and saved a lot of money that way!

Fly in and out of Ft. Myers airport
You really need a car
Written Aug 26, 2002
Car is the only way to get to Naples. Naples has a small airport, but most travelers arrive via the much larger Southwest Florida International in Fort Myers. From here, take the I-75 south to Naples.
In most parts of Naples, car is the only option to get around. Old Naples (downtown) is more intimate and walking is more facilitated. The Naples Trolley, a tourist bus in truth, could be classified as mass transit but its purpose is really only to shuttle tourists.

Fort Myers Airport is a small friendly place easy to get to and from.
The Naples Trolley is a great way to get an overview of the sites to see and places to go. One boarding pass and you can use it to get on and off at many stops all over town for the whole day.
