cocodries is a beach side restaurant located on navarre beach near the bridge. they offer local seafood and american fare with a new orleans accent. very good food moderately priced. in my opinion the best restaurant in navarre.

  • Formerly A Toll Bridge

Access to the Navarre beaches on the barrier island was by toll bridge. But after three hurricanes (Dennis and Ivan in 2004 and Katrina in 2005, many out of area contractors were needed to do repair work. For rebuilding operations, the contractors need easy access to the island, so the bridge is not currently a toll bridge.

Navarre Warnings and Dangers

  • Hurricane Damage

While the Comfort Inn and the Best Western on the mainland seem to be available as accommodations, the Holiday Inn out on the beach, and many homes and condos that were out on the beach have been destroyed and the rebuilding process is slow. The Holiday Inn website lists the Fort Walton Beach and the Pensacola Beach Holiday Inns as the closest to...

    A walk on the beach

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Although snow is nearly unheard of, it gets cool enough for a jacket in December and January, especially if you go for a walk on the beach. Summers are hot, hot, hot. Thank goodness for the ocean breeze. January and July are the wettest months usually but the showers only last about 15-20 minutes.

Miscellaneous: Don't forget the sunscreen. Florida sun is hotter than most places in the US. Add to that the reflection off the water and the white sand and you could be headed for trouble without it.

    Undamaged dome?

by grandmaR Updated Dec 25, 2005

Favorite thing: As we drove up and down the beach road, Bob remarked that some types of construction seemed to be more easily damaged than others. But we couldn't really tell if the buildings that looked unscathed were really built better, or if they had just been repaired first.

Vinyl siding didn't seem to fare as well as wood. Metal roof components seemed to be partly covered with plywood or blue plastic (see road scenes travelogue).

But this little building seemed to be all right.
