Beach It
grandmaR Says:
A big attraction of Navarre Beach is the beach with the white sand. People compare the sand to sugar, but since we were there in the winter, it reminded us of snow.Although the websites say that the beaches have been cleared of debris, and there seem to be toilets available...

Formerly A Toll Bridge

Access to the Navarre beaches on the barrier island was by toll bridge. But after three hurricanes (Dennis and Ivan in 2004 and Katrina in 2005, many out of area contractors were needed to do repair work. For rebuilding operations, the contractors need easy access to the...

Hurricane season
kyoub Says:
June 1 through November 30 is hurricane season so if you are here during that time period it wouldn't hurt to get a weather report from time to time.If a storm is headed your way, you will have plenty of time to get out of harms way.
Don't pick it up
kyoub Says:
Other than jellyfish, there isn't much to be concerned about in the gulf. Most of the marine life is much more worried about you than you should be of it.Still a good rule to follow is: If you don't know what it is, don't pick it up.
Watch where you step
kyoub Says:
The south is blessed fire ants that build mounds in front yards, in parks, and on beaches. Their bite is painful and leave nasty looking blisters. Shoes and socks wont prevent them from running up your legs but they are better than stepping on them with bare feet. It is just...
Stay off of the sand dunes
kyoub Says:
Navarre Beach is known for its rolling sand dunes that look solid but are in a constant state of change. They are made of lighter grains of sand blown onto the barrier island by offshore winds. Stay on the boardwalks and off of the dunes.
Northwest Florida has four seasons

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Although snow is nearly unheard of, it gets cool enough for a jacket in December and January, especially if you go for a walk on the beach. Summers are hot, hot, hot. Thank goodness for the ocean breeze. January and July are the wettest months usually but the showers only last about 15-20 minutes.
Miscellaneous: Don't forget the sunscreen. Florida sun is hotter than most places in the US. Add to that the reflection off the water and the white sand and you could be headed for trouble without it.

A sensible building style?
Favorite thing: As we drove up and down the beach road, Bob remarked that some types of construction seemed to be more easily damaged than others. But we couldn't really tell if the buildings that looked unscathed were really built better, or if they had just been repaired first.
Vinyl siding didn't seem to fare as well as wood. Metal roof components seemed to be partly covered with plywood or blue plastic (see road scenes travelogue).
But this little building seemed to be all right.
