The battle of Olustee, the biggest battle of the Civil War is Florida, occurred on the afternoon of 20 February 1864. Olustee Battlefield is located about 50 miles west of Jacksonville just off Interstate 10. There is a nice little museum dedicated to the battle and the Civil War onsite. There is also a memorial to those who fought in the battle behind the museum.
There is a short, unpaved, trail that leads to various points of interest around the battlefield. The Florida Trail, 1400 miles in length, traverses the park for those who want a longer more challenging hike.
Fondest memory: I enjoyed walking the battlefield trail and reading the stories of those who fought there.
