At around 2.30pm local time the shuttle launched and the cameras were clicking away. A few minutes later the noise reached us with a boom making the ground shudder slightly under my feet. Expect to be searched and your bags and camera to be inspected by security staff upon entering the complex.
Get there early to avoid disappointment of some of the special features showing.

The extension building next to the Kurt H. Debus Conference Facility is where you can walk around and see how space exploration has advanced with full scale models of the capsules the astronauts landed back on earth into the ocean, early astronaut suits and even the original Mercury Mission Control Room which contains the actual Mercury Mission Control consoles from which the first eight manned missions were monitored. We took a look inside this shuttle Explorer which you will find inside the complex. Walking underneath it you really get the feel of the size. Inside I was amazed how little room the astronauts have to work in. For the most part, the shuttle looked more like a cargo bay. Leave a Comment
