Favorite thing: 5 Its a full days excursion from International drive . We booked a coach trip to Kennedy on the east coast of Orlando. We were taken on a tour of all the control centres , had a chance to see launch pads and many exhibits. Also the biggest US flag in the country on the side of one of the buildings. that was in 1988 anyway !

Fondest memory:
Entry fees are $27.00 per adult.
Expect to be searched and your bags and camera to be inspected by security staff upon entering the complex.
Get there early to avoid disappointment of some of the special features showing.
Bring lots of soft drinks, snacks and food with you as the food and drinks here are very expensive.

At around 2.30pm local time the shuttle launched and the cameras were clicking away. A few minutes later the noise reached us with a boom making the ground shudder slightly under my feet. This was well worth waiting for and an unexpected treat. On this occassion the shuttle was going up to do repairs on a satellite.

The extension building next to the Kurt H. Debus Conference Facility is where you can walk around and see how space exploration has advanced with full scale models of the capsules the astronauts landed back on earth into the ocean, early astronaut suits and even the original Mercury Mission Control Room which contains the actual Mercury Mission Control consoles from which the first eight manned missions were monitored.

We took a look inside this shuttle Explorer which you will find inside the complex. Walking underneath it you really get the feel of the size. Inside I was amazed how little room the astronauts have to work in. For the most part, the shuttle looked more like a cargo bay.

On Monday 8th April 2002 we went to the Kennedy Space Center. Little did we know what treat lay in store for us! We were at the right place and the right time to watch the launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS-110)

Favorite thing: Take a trip down the road and visit the Kennedy Space Center. The VAB is the largest building in the world. This map shows you exactly where it is.
