    WINTER PARK ART FESTIVAL

by shohman Written Mar 22, 2005

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Eevry March, Winter Park hosts one of the best art festivals in the Country. Park ave is closed down to make room for the artists. All the shops have sales as well. It is a great time and you will be thankful to be exposed to so many talented people.

You ask for a piece of cake and they bring something close to the whole cake. But things are changing. Now they believe in style and they are commited to something mor eimportant than "more for your dollars". Good for them and for the rest fo the World.

Bow, Shake Hands, or just Get your face painted

When you can't walk cuz you fell off the sidewalk, go sit in the doctor's chair near the Tea Cups. The artist will paint your face whichever way you want. It's almost as relaxing as a massage!
Too bad I had to wait in line with a knee as big as my waist for 40 minutes but I don't want to get negative here!
My neighbour's face turned out well!

    Hello and Goodbye

by kbsunnyside Written Dec 14, 2004

Everyone said "Welcome home" when we got to our hotel and most people reminded us to "have a magical day." It was kind of nice.

I read some other notes, but must say everyone was friendly. I think we were there at a quiet time 12/10-13/04 just before the Christmas masses.

    Bring your money

Orlando caters to tourists and derives a great deal of its income from the masses of families, honeymooners and others who visit its theme parks and other attractions. Once you enter Orlando, it becomes apparent that the city is attempting to take every cent you have, can withdraw from an ATM machine or borrow from your credit card company. The Disney resort area has this down to a science. Those staying at the theme park resort area are instructed to toss their wallets and anything else of value into a large bin located directly beneath the large overhead sign bearing a gigantic picture of Mickey which marks the entrance to the Walt Disney World property. Any coins that are somehow left over will be retrieved at one of the many tollbooth locations conveniently placed about 1/4 mile apart on any of the Orlando area highways.

The above is clearly in jest. Well, partly anyway. Beware of those tollbooths, as they will bleed you dry .75 cents at a time.

Orlando is very conservative and not very open-minded. I was going to rag on it some more, but compared with other parts of Florida, it actually isn't that bad. It's probably the most gay-friendly city in the area--at least the downtown is.

The Orlando government is overly obsessed with image, and will go to great lengths to accommodate and protect tourists.

You may find that the service here in the summer is not exactly...friendly. Please don't be upset. It's just the weather. Everyone is hot and sticky, and while you're on vacation and intent on having a good time, remember, the people serving you are just at work for another day.

Very nice people. Laid-back. Just get used to the metro style of Florida. Just act like you normally do and you'll be fine.

Keep Cool- Employees are over-worked and getting minimum wage. They are also trying to live in an economy where everything is at a tourist price. Tempers as well as temperatures soar.
