Orlando Brewing Company: The Beer Magnet

by bocmaxima Written Jun 13, 2013

Being the only brewery in the immediate area, Orlando Brewing works to bring the hordes from Disney and Universal into the city's core. Housed in a gritty industrial area near the city's beautiful and mostly unused passenger rail station, the brewery is a bit of a surprise in its interior. Its warehouse facade gives way to an open, comfortable room with a relatively large bar. Music plays at a reasonable volume and you're greeted as you arrive by a bartender.

On tap, they have the typical varieties: porter, brown, pale, IPA, wheat, etc. But joining those are a number of rotating specialties that, as in the case of many other breweries, are the real stars of the show. Polarizing, but in a good way. The beers, overall, are above average. Surprising considering, again, this is really the only brewery in the area so there's just not much for competition. But this brewery - venerable by craft brewery standards, being founded in 2004 - does very well. And they'll be sure to tell you that they're Florida's only certified-organic brewery.

If you like beer, then this should be a stop. Particularly if you're around Disney World, where the beer options are basically zilch.

copper rocket pub: beer, darts, pool, and music

    by doug48 Updated Mar 14, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

the copper rocket is one of the best local music venues in central florida. they host bands that play hard rock to blue grass. see the attached website for a schedule of events. at 6:30 pm monday, wedsday, and friday the copper rocket hosts a trivia show which is a lot of fun. the trivia show is free and you can win a free beer each round. i personally host the trivia show most mondays. in the afternoon and early evening the "rocket" gets a local after work crowd. later when the bands perform they get a younger 20 to 30 something crowd. the copper rocket offers darts, pool, and an excellent beer selection. the "rocket" has a friendly cleintelle and is great place to visit in the orlando area.

Hard Rock Live: Not to be confused with Hard Rock Cafe

by sunlovey Updated Apr 4, 2011

Designed to resemble the Roman coliseum from the outside with an incredible light and sound system inside, this just might be one of the best places to see a band play in central Florida.

IF you don't mind the overhead audience lights being on the entire show, cameras whirling around over your head at all times and well, some idiot telling you to dance around and scream to audio of the band you're about to see so they can film it for the show on MTV.

OK, so not all shows here are MTV tapings... and hey, all of this b.s. is worth it if you really love the band and are in the area anyway.

The 'pit' area in front of the stage slopes a bit for good views, in fact I don't think there's a bad view in the house thanks to its circular shape. There is a balcony area too. And three or four bars to choose from.

Dress Code: Orlando kids dress casual with a touch of trendy. Think fitted designer jeans, the latest sneakers/trainers and vintage-look fitted tees and such.

Disney's Pleasure Island or Universal's Citywalk: Best and Safest Nightlife

    by gv_Orlando Written Sep 24, 2007

I think the theme parks have the best nightlife. I think they have done more research or what the nightlife crowd likes and they have excellent security to ensure the safety of their patrons.

Downtown Disney's Pleasure Island has a variety of restaurants, dance clubs with different genres of music.

The Raglan Road Irish Pub is my favorite restaurant there. It has an authentic irish pub atmosphere that is family friendly and in the evenings around 9pm they feature live irish music and irish step dancers.

Two of the more popular dance clubs are Mannequins and 8-Trax. Mannequins has a rotating dance floor and 8 Trax plays music from the 60s, 70s, 80s.

The Improv comedy warehouse has a comedy 7pm show that is family friendly, after that everything goes. Don't sit by the telephone if you don't want to be picked on during the show.

Pleasure Island at Downtown Disney: Pleasurable but Overhyped

by Dundooni Written Apr 5, 2006

We took advantage of the "Fun Activity" option on our Disney 6-day passes. We were able to secure wristabnds which got us into every club with no wait the whole night. This is the only way to go, as waiting in line for these mostly novelty clubs would be a drag. The best club was the BET Soundstage, mostly because of the cool set up and the hip hop music. At the dance club Mannequins, there is a revolving dance floor which sounds cool in thoery but actually seems like a safety hazard. Moving floor + 3 inch heels + alcohol = trouble.

    Corner Bar: Corner Bar

by shohman Updated Dec 18, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Corner Bar is small and there isn't much too it, but it has a lot of character. Right on Orange Ave (and next to Scruffy Murphy's) they pour a nice pint of Guiness, and it's cheap too (4.75) Plus when I was there My bartender was a cute girl from Dublin, always a bonus.

NOTE: Sadly, the Corner bar has closed. I will leave my tip as as a tribute to the fine pints of Guinness they pulled.

    Casey's: Hometown bar

by shohman Written Sep 5, 2005

Casey's is known by everyone in Orlando. It's no frills, but a great place to go and chat with friendly people and the best bar staff in town. It gets packed here and the people watching is top notch. They usually have a guy with a guitar playing but as the night goes on, the amount of people make it difficult to hear. No worries, You will have a great time whether with a big group or alone.
    Pints are cheap too :)

CIGARZ: Not so touristy, good music, cool atmosphere

by sunlovey Written Jul 20, 2005

Cigarz is located in CityWalk an area of Universal studios with restaurants, a movie theater, shops and such. Most of the venues at CityWalk are geared for the throngs of tourists that flock to Orlando. Cigarz doesnt feel like that.

In fact I would have never known it existed if it weren't for a local that we met walking out of a show/concert at Hard Rock Live.

When we left Hard Rock Live we headed left, crossed over a bridge, walked to the right then went up some steps away from the throngs of people. Cigarz was on the left.

And it was cool. An old Cuban cigar factory sets the theme. Darker atmosphere, a mega humidor, decently priced drinks and good music.

I recommend this place if you're in the area and want to get away from the tourist masses.

Dress Code: Casual. Jeans will do just fine.

The Independent Bar: Formerly Barbarella's: An Oasis from the crap that is Orlando

by sarahjayn Updated May 16, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Independent Bar is nothing special, really, but it's the only bar that I've been able to stomach in Orlando. It's not fake, not Disney, and it's not that expensive. There's three main parts to the Independent: the front bar, the dance floor, and the patio. Generally, the dance floor has the best music (I think), but there's usually a pretty good mix.

Dress Code: Pretty much anything goes.

Oh, yeah, it's kind of a meat market, too.
