Pleasure Island: Evening Nightcap & Dancing

by AliasGirl Updated Aug 8, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There is something for everyone - Rock, Jazz, Country, Pop, 80s music (retro)...we had a ball hopping from one place to another!

I happen to like Country Music (which is so strange for a city girl) and while we visited Pleasure Island we spent some time at..The Wild Horse Saloon.. May 1999 and during that time Trick Pony was playing there. They rocked! Of course, they became a huge hit after that, at least on country radio! So you never know who may be playing and who will become a breakout star! Check it out!! No square dancing or line dancing necessary!!! I just kicked backa few cocktails withmy husband and listened to some great country music.

We actually went club hopping and went from country to jazz (my hubby's favorite), pop and the 80s club. We had fun there! Lots of dancing...Boy George never sounded so good! :) We had a blast!

Dress Code: Anything cool and funky!

Pleasure Island, Downtown Disney: For Locals and Tourists Alike for a Fun Night!

See these lights, you're in for a fun night!

Pleasure Island is located in Downtown Disney. You will enjoy the diverse dancing clubs, that everybody can enjoy, along with a great improv comedy club, where famous comedians got their start.

    Adventurers Club- Bar with storyteller.
BET Soundstage- Must be 21 to enter, hip hop, and r&b.
    8 Trax- Disco and retro 70's, 80's.
Manniquins- Must be 21 to enter, house and techno music. There is a show, and it is a revolving dance floor.
    Motion-American top 40 music.
Pleasure Island Jazz Club- Mellow, jazz spot.
Rock N Roll Beach Club-Live bands play today and yesterdays rock music.

There are some unique restaurants to catch a bite, and every night the place lights up with a fun filled, millenia celebration.

    Check out these restaurants:
    Bongos- Cuban dining.
    Fultons Crab House- Seafood Dining.
Planet Hollywood- Chain of celebrity memorabilia, drinks, appeitizers and dishes.
House Of Blues- Cajun, southern food.
Rainforest Cafe-Unique volcano shaped restaurant, chickens, pastas, pizzas.
    Wolfgang Puck's- Californian inspired dishes.

Dress Code: There is no particular dress code to go there, but remember it is a Disney property, considered a family destination. I would just use your judgement.

    Pleasure Island

Pleasure Island is a great spot to hop from one to another place.
Different styles of music and fun can be selected.
I did enjoy the Comedy Warehouse best.
If you aren’t a native English speaker, make sure you understand the language well, otherwise you will miss most of the hilarious jokes.

    Pleasure Island

Pleasure Island is an adults only nightlife option if you are straned at Disney. It's not bad, as there is something for everyone from comedy clubs to live music to 70's clubs and everything in between. It is pricey, but I suppose if you don't want to venture out to the true Orlando, this is a fun night.

Dress Code: it is 80% tourist so everything goes, but for the love of God, have some pride and try to look semi nice. (it amazes me with what people wear for a night out)

    dancing all night (registered mark)

Ok. You paid for getting in Pleasure Island and having the great pleasure of enjoying Mary's performance. You can go there as many times as you want Every single time will be different. Provided the f**king girl from Wisconsin do not pass her WOW-phrase to friends and once again we have to struggle with the “Rather to say nothing and have people think you are stupid than say something and prove it".
But after the theather youcan choose between three-four-five? dancing places that could be packed as hell during summer timer but they are empty as heaven in
    winter. At least Sunday nights.
This is one of them. The floor rotates and the speed is enough to make the centrifugal forces to help you broken your teeth. So be careful or at least buy a dental insurance. The music was something like...no idea.

Dress Code: Ok. ok. What can i do recommend. Girls is up to you. No pants is ok with me!!!

Soon as you get to pleasure island goto one of the machines their and purchase a three day pass for $18 dollars, this allows you access to all the bars and clubs for free and works out much better than paying for the locations seperately.

However i was not impressed by any of the clubs or bars here and I heard that City walk was kind of better. Although I did not choose to check them out as I decided that it would be better if we went to Orland Downtown itself and went out there. This turned out to be the best choice as there are loads more bars/clubs and also a much more of a local crowd without the commerical rubbish.

WE went to Taboo which was a converted theatre, okay if you like the down n dirty RnB type place but the crowd was bit ***. Dragon club was much better, the place was quite small in size but the crowd was better, the staff and security very polite and the barmaids! WOW

Dress Code: Pleasure island and city walk clubs require pretty much no dress code. A shirt would be too much here so stick with jeans and tshirts!

Orland downtown depending on the place you choose is not so bad either, for somewhere like taboo its pretty casual but Dragon club is bit better.

    West End Stage

    Walt Disney Worlds' Pleasure Island.

Pleasure Island is the perfect night spot, there are at least seven clubs ranging from:
    Comedy Warehouse-speaks for itself

    8Trax-very fluorescent plays 70's and 80's disco

Neon Armadillo-live country music and line dancing

Pleasure sland Jazz Company-live jazz music

Rock and Roll Beach Club-rock and roll music

Adventurers Club-Audience Participation from the 1930's

Mannequins-Over 21's only, upto date music on a revolving dance floor and cocktail mixing competitions.

There are several shops and places to eat and is the venue for Planet Hollywood (see my restaurant tips).
At midnight the main square is the place to be where every night there is a New Years Eve party with a live band on the West End Stage. You will hear music all around Pleasure Island as there is a DJ playing to those who are not in the clubs, so you can dance in the streets if you so wish. There is also a multiplex cinema and various street entertainers walking around to keep you amused.

Dress Code: Ranges from t-shirts and shorts to smart casual, depending on which club you want to go in.

In Orlando, There are the usual tourist multi-plex clubs -- City Walk at Universal Studios and Disney's Pleasure Island/Downtown Disney. If you must go to City Walk, then visit the Latin Quarter which features a brass band that plays Salsa all night long. And, if you're hungry then you can eat there first. If you are at Pleasure Island, try Mannequins Dance Palace; voted the #1 dance club in the U.S. of A. The dance floor actually spins around while you are dancing on it. Downtown Disney features House of Blues with world-class, live music. But, I still like downtown Orlando for Friday's and Saturday nights.
I can never chose just one of anything, so here are my personal favs: 1) Ybor's - a quiet, cigar and martini bar across the street from Amura's. Just follow the cat paws on the building. 2) 08 Seconds - A typical American Country Western bar, but with an outside rodeo attached to it. 3) Cairo's - has House Music on the 1st floor, 70's Retro on the second floor, and Reggae (island music) on the outside roof. 4) The Club at Firestone (pictured) - features Techno Pop to rival the clubs in Berlin, New York, or London.

If you want to do what all the other tourists do, then go to CityWalk and Pleasure Island. There are a lot ofvery nice restaurants, bars and discos there. But, if you want to hang out with the locals, then try downtown Orlando on Friday or Saturday night.

Dress Code: Clothing is not optional, but anything else goes.

    It's PLEASURE ISLAND for sure!...

    It's PLEASURE ISLAND for sure!

Lots of great pubs/ bars and live concerts can be found here. The Planet Hollywood joint is also located at this place.... but the queue to get in is awefully looooong!

To get in to Pleasure Island, you must first pass through some sort of a 'security checkpoint'. These security guys are basically sniffing out for the underaged folks who try to sneak in. Have I already mentioned that one of my buddies who looks as if she's still in high school was slapped with a wrist band?

For Hard Rock Cafe fans, head straight to Universal Studios Florida (located outside the Walt Disney World resort). That's where this joint is located. Again, the queue to get in is awefully loooooooong. So, you must either be VERY patient; eat at ODD hours or give your best smile to those guys standing at the door (what do you call them? Bouncers? Security guys??). I'm sure you know what I mean. :-)

adventurer's club, this is the security guard?

One of the best, and funniest, people watching places I've been too. Started to write off Pleasure Island, as I'm not that into 'Clubbin' anymore, and I was traveling solo so the dance opportunities were gonna be slim....but stumbled upon The Adventurer's Club. And I'm glad I did. Think interactive dinner theater, but without the dinner.......Just the bar. If you wander in and don't stay for a while you won't get the concept. Settle in, grab a libation, and stay for a while. Thats the only way you're gonna get the jokes, and enjoy the evening.
