As Linda said, Sand Key Beach is beautiful. You do have to purchase the dollar gold coins from a dispenser which generally takes dollar bills. It is a dollar an hour to park in any of the beach parking lots, using these gold coins. Sand Key Beach is JUST across the bridge from Clearwater and is clean and quiet. If you want a beach that makes you feel like you are on a deserted island paradise, try Ft. Desoto. It is farther down the coast than Sand Key, but worth the drive if you have the time. I would spend the extra 30-40 minutes to get there and then see only nature. There are NO buildings, signs, billboards, anything nearby. So you see only clear blue water, birds, shells, etc. There is a very clean and large bath house where you can shower and change clothes. Adn if I remember correctly, there are no parking meters here. Free.
On another note, Winter Park, just next to Orlando, has one of the largest collections of Tiffany glass art in the world. Rollins College is also in Winter Park, which has a bit of a Merry Ole England feel with its brick lined streets and quaint shops. Enjoy your sunny Florida vacation.
The name really describes this beach! We needed a break from themem parks so we thught we would find a nice safe bach and just chill for the day, The sand was pure white and the sea warm warm and very very clean. You hire the sun beds for $5 a day ( if my memory is correct) Just remember that drinking alcohol on the beach is actually illegal in Florida, so if you fancy a beer just nip into one of the many bars just behind the beach. There are a few good shops there lots selling sandwiches, ya know, white, rye ,soda , b.l.t with relish ,no pickles and eggs over easy hold the mayo kinda thing, far too many choices for my liking! lol!
