The Black Hammock Wilderness Area is one of those places missed by most visitors. It is a 700 acre area of preserved habitat. There is a marked trail of approximately 4.5 miles which starts from a small car park. It is reported that the car park can become full but mine was the only car on the day I went. There is book to record your details as well as start and return times for safety. The trail soon changes to a wooden boardwalk and after about 10 minutes changes back to the marked trail. The end of the trail goes around in a loop so that you head back to start of the hike. This is a wild area of Florida and you are advised to stay on the trail.
