Palm Harbor Things to Do

  • Enjoy a Park on a Spring: Wall Spring

Wall Springs is a great park with good paved walking trails, lots of unique picnic sports, piers to the water (fishing allowed) where you can see the Gulf of Mexico. Wall Spring is beautiful with the outline of a woman's face in it. The play grounds are excellent and are under a canopy which is even better. We had a really fun day with grandkids at...

  • Walk in the Park: John Chestnut, Sr....

We live a few miles from John Chestnut Sr. Park and often go for a leisurely walk there. They have at least 3 different paths consisting of boardwalks through the low land foliage (swamp) that also have great views of Lake Tarpon. On this recent visit we did the Peggy Park Trail which allows for a shorter walk or a longer walk. We opted for the...

  • Guided Kayak Trips

My family had always wanted to try kayaking. We were on vacation and found their brochure, and thought this would be the way to try it. They provided everything we needed; the kayaks and gear, snacks, drinks, instruction, sunscreen, everything. They even take digital photos and give you the CD when you get back in. We felt so safe. The owners are...

Palm Harbor Restaurants

  • Good Ol' Seafood in a Fun Setting

We stopped in for a late lunch and had the lunch special of fish & chips. Fish was in a light batter - very good. Also enjoyed beer and wine specials. Good food in a rustic atmosphere. The restaurant is in downtown Palm Harbor and has been around for years. They consistently offer good seafood and specials for lunch or dinner. It can get crowded in...

  • UMMMM! Homemade Ice Cream!

A great ending to a fun day was a stop at Strachans for some ice cream. They offer a good variety of flavors and give huge scoops. I thought I was getting a small waffle cone but they loaded it full of ice cream. A special treat after dinner or any other time of day. In the Palm Harbor and Dunedin area, Strachan's Old Fashion Ice is the place to...

  • Nice Casual and Tasty Italian Lunch

It had been years since we went to Positano's and before only for dinner. This time we went for lunch and enjoyed some good pasta specials (around $10.00) for our lunch which included a salad. I chose the Penne Vodka which was a large portion, my husband had Alfredo with Scallops which while tasty had only two scallops. My portion allowed for a...

  • Not Your Average Deli! Huge Portions!

As usual on arrival, the Lucky Dill Deli was packed on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived just before noon and were told there would be about a 30 minute wait. Open seating was available in the bar area. We found a table and elected to eat there. The waitress explained there is about a 15 minute delay at lunchtime as the kitchen switches from breakfast...

  • Good Food, Good Service and Good Setting

On this visit there were six of us (including two toddlers). The hostess gave us a great table outside with a good view. Our waiter was very good and paid special attention to the kids. Everyone had a great dinner with their large portions. The sea bass was excellent as was the seafood skewers our son and daughter-in-law had. My husband really...

  • A Fine Dining Restaurant

My husband and I went to Massimo's to celebrate my birthday on a Thursday evening in November. The restaurant was very quiet with only one other group dining this evening. We had not been to Massimo's in several years and thoroughly enjoyed our fish dinners. Good size servings for our seafood dinner. Chef even came out and chatted with us. The food...

  • Palm Harbor's Only Irish Pub

Met a friend for lunch and enjoyed the hearty shepherd's pie. We have been here in the past so are familiar with the menu. Basically good heart food nice selection if beers and ok on wines, to us the best part if Peggy O'Neil's is the history if the building it is in. Overall a reasonable dining venue. The Pub is located in downtown Palm Harbor so...

  • So So - Lacks Warmth

We stopped in since this restaurant is adjacent to our neighborhood. While the food was okay as was the service, there was definitely a lack of warmth and welcoming. It was not busy on this Sunday evening either. While their microbrew was very good this restaurant is lacking in warmth and charm. So sad as it is conveniently located to our...

  • Good Home Cookin' -Lee Roy Selmon's

We find consistently good meals at Leroy Selmon's. They have a varied and extensive menu but be prepared it is more on the Southern side with fried foods. While I grew up on that I do attempt to eat healthier now. They have a Happy Hour of wines (BOGO - buy one get one) and specials on beers. This visit I had the Margarita Flatbread with a side...

  • Pretty good British pub food

Cricketers is a british pub in Palm Harbor. Its got a comfortable atmosphere and a terrific beer selection. The food is acceptable, but not super-fantastic. That said, its one of my husband's favorite places to go when we're home. We generally go in the afternoon, after lunch and before dinner. The staff is minimal at this time and dining can take...

  • Delicious seafood, LOUD Environment

Ozona Blue is located near Home Port Marina in Ozona. Nice location, comfortable interior, REALLY LOUD though. Since when have restaurants in FL decided that in order for their guests to have a nice evening out they shouldn't be able to talk to each other without shouting? This is far from the only place in Pinellas County that one can barely here...

  • Grouper Cheeks? Really?

The Thirsty Marlin has consistently good food. Their menu heavily features seafood, from sushi to pasta dishes. I espcially like their grouper cheeks. Quite tasty. My husband ordered the scallops and thought they were delicious, although a little on the skimpy side. Their side dishes range from red beans and rice to coleslaw. Their shecrab bisque...

  • Southern food-- really good

Magnolia Grill is a small restaurant that definately has a home feel. It serves Southern cooking, though not too wild of southern cooking. It features Fried Green Tomatoes and Fried Chicken. I really enjoy the Chicken and Veggie Pita. It is large enough to share (I often share with my mom), and comes with a large plate of fries. Although I am not...

Palm Harbor Transportation

  • by gtchickadee Written May 31, 2005

You definately need a car to travel around Palm Harbor. The bus system leaves a lot to be desired. There is plenty of parking wherever you want to go, and everything can be reached in around 15-20 minutes (at the most).

Palm Harbor Off The Beaten Path

  • by Starlas Written Oct 2, 2003

This is an area that has a strong Greek population. It was really neat. Lots of restaurants and bakery's that specialized in Greek food. This is the are where the boats and divers go out in the ocean and dive for the sponges. They sell them in all the gift shops there.

Favorite thing: We really enjoy the John Chestnut, Sr. Park in Palm Harbor. It offers several trails, excellent picnic facilities, at least 2 different children's playgrounds, a dog park, and has a boat ramp, too. The Park is on Lake Tarpon - a large lake in north Pinellas County. A great place for a walk along a boardwalk or path in a natural Florida setting. Yes, you might see deer and a slight chance of alligators in one of the ponds in the park.

Check the events calendar as downtown Palm Harbor Hosts a lot of art shows, food tasting events, and more during the year.
