Panama City Things to Do

  • Enjoy the huge stretch of Panama City...

This is a fabulous stretch. It goes on for miles. And all the way along you will find great hotels, casinos, restaurants and bars, and a beautiful beach with beach activities right along. There are small cafe's and shops, and I would have loved to stayed for much longer, maybe even a couple of weeks, but sadly we were only there until the following...

  • Ripley's Believe It or Not! Odditorium

This was a nice surprise as we drove into Panama City Beach, Florida. Sure, we had seen some of the shows on TV, but never really thought much of the shows, but it was still great to see the upside down Wonder Works Building and the ship. To be honest, other than killing a couple of hours, it wasn't all that, and I don't think it would deserve a...

  • St Andrew Skirmish

Near this spot in St Andrew there was a skirmish between Union and Confederate troops in on 20 March 1863. An 11 man scouting party of Union sailors landed while attempting to locate a southern civilian vessel. They were repelled by troops under Captain William J. Robinson. Six Union sailors were killed and three wounded.

Panama City Restaurants

  • Best Hot Dogs in Town

Tom's is almost an institution in Panama City and is widely known as having the best hot dogs in the area. The menu includes various types of hot dogs, other types of sandwiches, hamburgers, and chicken salad. Hours are 9 AM to 3 PM Monday through Saturday. Try the chili dog. Great!

  • Off the Beaten Path

Bayou Joe's is tucked away off the street along picturesque Massalina Bay. This is not the place to go if appearance is your big concern, or if you crave a fancy place. The facilities are basic; but they are working on improving them. The menu tends toward burgers, basic seafood baskets and some larger more intricate platters and pastas mostly...

  • Right on the beach!

While we were in Panama City we ate dinner at the ultimate Panama City place to be, Schooner's. The place bills itself as the 'Last Local Beach Club & Restaurant', I wouldn't go that far seemed very touristy and not too local, plus there are many other places like it nearby. What makes Schooner's unique is that it is right on the beach. The food...

  • Overpriced Buffet--Avoid it

This buffet costs nearly $24.00 and was all sub-standard fare--worth 7 bucks (possibly). Nothing seemed very fresh. You could go to any of the hundreds of Chinese buffets around and get better food without being gouged. Their french fries were acceptable.

A point that should be a very important factor in determining your hotel of choice should be their shuttle schedule. Getting around PC can be a hassle if you have flown in and have no transportation. Most of the hotels run a shuttle all night, which is key if your hotel is far from the action. There is nothing worse than following up 8 hours of...

  • Disrespect towards Diners

There are two "All You Can Eat Buffets" at the bridge-end of Panama City and the one to avoid is "Buffet City". I sat down and ordered a plate of "Beef Stir-Fry With Vegetables" and what arrived a few minutes later was NOT beef..... it was solid fat, gristle and by-product that they tried to pass off as beef. This was totally unacceptable. I...

Panama City Tourist Traps

  • Choose the RIGHT Hotel

My recommendation is that if you are going to spend the money to go to Spring Break in Panama City Beach do it right the first time and STAY in Panama City Beach.... DON'T stay in Panama City. • Be careful with the VIP pass

The VIP Pass at Club La Vela sounds like a great deal. Free beer, no entry-fee, t-shirt and so on. But when you want to use it, you will recognize that others without the pass get the free beer, too. The free entry is only for specific times (we once had to pay 20 bucks to get in with our VIP Pass!!!!!). Better go there early at night (around 8-9...

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There is ALWAYS a game of beach volleyball going on. Get in there! Don't be shy! Or, be prepared and bring your own net. You will definitely make new friends fast.

Equipment: Each of the places I have stayed had big wooden poles to tie your net around. It is definitely the better option over the flimsy metal poles in most volleyball sets. I learned this the hard way. A lot of drunk people who have no volleyball skills = broken poles!
