Panama City Beach Things to Do

  • Shell Island

I picked this park to visit because it was close. The fact that it was named by Dr. Beach (Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman) as America¿s Best Beach in 1995 didn't really matter to us as it was January and cold. At other seasons this might be a selling point for the park which s 1,260-acre park is located on a peninsula with over 1.5 miles of beach on the...

  • Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum

I remember old Believe It Or Not cartoons or other print media or radio items when I was growing up. I haven't visited this particular museum and have generally avoided going to these museums when I see them. There is one in Key West, and in Branson which I also have not been to. I have been to Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg TNWe...

Panama City Beach Restaurants

  • Good Seafood and Beer

Do not listen to the Panama City Beach Guide input on Dusty's. It says "Home of warm beer, lousy food, ugly waitresses and the two-time U. S. National Oyster Shucking Champion". Only the last part is true. The beer is cold, the food very good and the waitresses kinda cute. Lots of wood inside and dollar bills left by customers adorn the walls and...

  • We All Scream for Ice Cream

The Pink Pelican is located in a non-descript strip mall with a crazy parking lot; but is well worth seeking out when you want some great ice cream. The Pink Pelican even made a list of best ice cream in the Huffington Post. A bit more expensive than most ice cream parlors but quite tasty. One scoop is packed and about the same as two scoops in...

  • Great Home Cooking; Friendly Staff

Mike's has a menu of southern style home cooking (like homemade meatloaf with greens and black eyed peas) along with fresh seafood. I had breakfast there with one of my cousins and tried their seafood omelet. It was excellent with fish, shrimp and scallops with Swiss cheese and a hollandaise sauce. My cousin is a regular here and was greeted with...

Panama City Beach Nightlife

  • Dance on the Bar

Dance on the bar with the hot waitresses, drink beer or shots of Jagermeister, shoot pool, this is a fun place to spend the evening. Hours are 4 PM to 4 AM daily. Very casual. Ripped clothing is the norm for the waitresses.

  • Live Music at a Famous Honkytonk

Tootsie's Orchid Lounge is located just across the street from Hofbrau and on the Friday Night I was there it had live music. The band was pretty good and played Southern Rock. Lots of photos of musicians, bands, and customers on the walls. Small dance floor. Several beers and mixed drinks available. This is a spinoff of the famous Tootsie's in...

  • Free Beer

On Friday nights they open a keg and as long as it lasts the beer is free. The waitresses dress in traditional German outfits and there was a cute blonde playing the accordion. Inside looks like a traditional German beer hall (as a matter of fact the tables and benches came from the original Munchner Hofbrauhaus) and there is outdoor seating too....

Panama City Beach Local Customs

If you are staying in Panama City and have the ability to cook in your accomodations, stop by a local market and pick up some fresh local seafood. We've been going to Shrimp City for years now. • Tipping

Living in PCB for 22 years, I've realized that old Canadians DO NOT TIP at restaurants! This is one of the most insulting thing you can do to someone who works for less than 1/2 of minimum wage. If you want to leave a good impression for the locals, tip your waiter/waitress and barmen.

Panama City Beach Warnings and Dangers

  • Beach Swimming Precaution...

Beach Warning! The rip currents along the beach can be very strong at times. Many people drown each year fighting them. If you get pulled under, swim along with the flow of the current and work your way closer to shore as the current weakens. DON'T FIGHT THE CURRENT!! If you see red flags along the beach, stay out of the water for your own safety!

  • Traffic is ghastly in season.

Because there are only one or two main roads on the beach, expect traffic to be at a near standstill at times. Mostly it is a tedious creeping drive from one end of the beach to the other, especially around the strip. To compound this problem, you will also have to watch out for every drunken college kid and spring breaker who is likely to dart in...

Panama City Beach Tourist Traps

  • Panama City Beach Parkway

As soon as you come into PCB the speed limit goes from 55 to 45. At the base of the 45 mph sign is a PIG holding a radar gun. How any POS Cop can justify this is beyond me. Panama City Beach What to Pack

You will not need to many bags. Just 1 or 2 suit cases. Remember...Unless you stay at a fancy hotel, you will have to take you own bag to your room so don't make it to heavy. You'll need a swim suit, of coarse, and some sandals and flip flops for the beach (the sand gets hot), A couple of nice outfits to go out in. Nice, but comfortable enough to...

I usually go the last of June, or the 2nd or 3rd week of July. So if you are going around this time. Bring your normal beach wear. Panama City Beach Sports & Outdoors

  • MatthewMetcalfe's Profile Photo

by MatthewMetcalfe Written Aug 19, 2004

Vortex Springs is a natural Spring 45 minutes north of Panama City in Ponce De Leon Florida. Aside from being a great dive training site, the water is clear and offers the cave diver a new cave to explore.

For those who are training, there's a dive bell and man made caves to train in as well as platforms for learning.

Equipment: The water is a cool 72 year round. I wore a 3 mil shorty over a 3 mil full suit with gloves and was still a little cold. I recommend a hood as well.

Panama City Beach Favorites

  • Ahhh...the beach!

Being from the East Coast, where going to the "beach" meant Ocean City, Maryland or Cape May, NJ, the water of the Gulf of Mexico was nice. Otherwise, this is your typical "party" beach spot, which isn't really my thing. Down the road a bit from Panama City are also a bunch of outlets, for those who are interested in shopping.
