Nav-A-Gator Bar & Grill: Where the road ends & adventure begins

by TheTravelSlut

This "Old Florida" bar and grill truly is at the end of the road, not that far from Interstate 75 but far enough to allow patrons to arrive by car, bike, motorcycle , seaplane or boat (off the Peace River).Live music, eclectic setting and atmosphere, even allowing dogs on a leash while eating outdoors.Be sure to check out the detached tiki bar on the riverfront, the docked seaplane, and all the fun things in and aroun the bar. Even the gift shop is fun. Grouper sandwich is fresh and either fried, grilled, or blackened. Great portions and sides.

Jack's Restaurant: A locals' favorite in Punta Gorda

by Jefie

As we were visiting the A.C. Freeman House in Punta Gorda, our guide asked if we needed restaurant recommendations and one of the places he said was very popular with locals was Jack's, so we decided to give it a try. I can't say I was too crazy about the atmosphere of the place - this family restaurant has a huge, slightly outdated dining room that doesn't do much in the way of conveying any special type of ambience. The food, however, was pretty good. I ordered the turkey & artichoke sandwich, which was served with a nice fruit salad, and really enjoyed it. Also, even though I'm not too keen on seafood, I tried one of the bang-bang shrimps Sylvain had ordered as an appetizer and it was actually really tasty! So I guess I can understand why locals would like this place since it offers an interesting selection of tasty dishes at a very reasonable price. All that's really lacking is a...

Harpoon Harry's at Fishermen's Village: Great waterfront dining spot in Punta Gorda

by Jefie

Harpoon Harry's is a huge restaurant located at the very end of the Fishermen's Village complex in Punta Gorda. It offers fantastic views of Charlotte Harbor in a fun and casual atmosphere. It's very popular with both locals and visitors, and it seems like there is no such thing as a slow afternoon there with people continuously dropping by to grab a snack or a drink at the bar. Kids will love the arcade section of the restaurant, and grown-ups can enjoy live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, starting at 9:00 pm. The menu features a really nice selection of American dishes, including several seafood options. I ordered the chicken salad melt sandwich, and it was beyond delicious! Our waitress was also incredibly friendly, which only added to the lively atmosphere of the place.

French Connection Cafe: Nice spot in the historic Fort Myers district

by Jefie

After spending some time shopping on First Street, we decided to stop at one of the cafes for lunch. There are several in the area, and most offer sidewalk tables that allow you to soak up the lively atmosphere of the historic district. After looking at different menus, we chose to eat at the French Connection Cafe - it also seemed to be the one that attracted the biggest crowd of people out on their lunch break, which we took as a good sign. In the end, we all enjoyed a deliciously fresh meal - I ordered the veggie quiche, which happened to be broccoli on that day, and it came with fresh fruits and a homemade muffin. It made for a complete, healthy meal, something that can be quite a rare treat when you're travelling!

Miller's Dockside Grill: Great lunch at the Boca Grande marina

by Jefie

The Boca Grande marina is located slightly outside of the downtown area, but if you're as addicted to waterfront dining as I am, you won't regret making the short detour to get there. There are two restaurants located at the marina, Eagle Grille and Miller's Dockside, and we chose to eat at the latter because it's more casual and its patio is right on the water. The menu offers an interesting selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and pizzas, and seafood lovers won't be disappointed! I decided to go with the goat cheese bruschetta, which was more or less described as goat cheese spread over rustic bread - it turned out be both delicious and very nicely presented. It also went rather well with the refreshing melon margharita that was on special that day - so much so that I had to order a second one!

Capt. Anderson’s: A Popular Restaurant

by KimberlyAnn

We chose Capt. Anderson’s Restaurant as our place to eat out in Panama City Beach, as it came well recommended, and has won a number of awards. We went out with our neighbors in the campground, whom we had shared a campfire with a few nights before. We all had an excellent meal. My husband and I both had She Crab Soup, with lumps of crabmeat as a starter. I ordered the Grilled Bay Shrimp, and my husband had their Seafood Platter. On his platter he had stuffed deviled crab, fried shrimp, scallops, and fried fresh caught fish. He added the optional stuffed broiled Florida lobster to his meal. He said it was delicious, but it would have been too much food for me, so I was glad that I had just ordered the shrimp. Besides, with my smaller dish, I managed to squeeze down a fancy dessert. We also each enjoyed rum and fruit drinks before our meal, and as a plus we could keep the glasses as...

Ted Peters Famous Smoked Fish: Over 50 Years of Smoking Fish!

by paulapes

I saw this restaurant on the show "Diners, Drive-In's & Dives" a week before leaving for St. Pete and mentally put it on my list for a visit, if possible, knowing that it wouldn't be far from my sister's place. Obviously we did get there and it was pretty interesting. My sister had been there in the past, and was up for going again, especially since she loves the famous fish spread! I saw the smoked salmon on the show and wanted to try that and the german potato salad (bacon fat and all!!). We ordered and I loved the fish spread and the salmon, but the potato salad is not for me (or my sister)---too much bacon fat! But anyway, I'm glad we had a chance to go and I recommend it for anyone who likes smoked fish. The salmon platter is plenty for two people to share! The smoking process goes like this: Raw fish (mackerel, mullet, salmon) is laid on racks over a smouldering fire of red oak in a...

Jungle Jim's: Have a meal in the jungle

by scottishvisitor

The kids loved this restaurant with its jungle decor complete with animal noises and wall to wall video clips of the rainforest. The servers were very friendly especially interested in the children and were a great help in choosing from the huge menu. A fun filled evening was had by all, rounded off with a visit to the restaurant gift shop We adults had the Keilbase Bacon Burger with garden salad & the kids had Funky Fish with carrot sticks all washed down with Coca Cola (free refills on all soft drinks) The dessert menu was labled "Lost Shrine of Forbidden Pleasures" and they are not kidding - we all enjoyed Chocolate Mousse Pie - they do say the desserts are big enough for two - yes they are right.
