Columbia Restaurant: spanish cuisine
the columbia st. augustine, is one of several branches of the famous columbia of ybor city in tampa. the original columbia was established in 1905 in ybor city, the cigar making area of tampa. i have dinned at the original columbia, their restraunt in sarasota and in st. augustine. i have found the quality of the food and service to be consistent at each location. they offer cuban/spanish cuisine and are famous for their black bean soup. i highly recommend this restaurant when in st. augustine.
Columbia Restaurant: It's Not the Original
He says: The Columbia is a good restaurant, but it is lacking the ambiance and the quality of the original Columbia House in Ybor City. She says: We had no problems getting reservations for a late Friday evening after arriving at our B&B. Everyone around us seemed to enjoy their meals as much as we did. The wine list was extensive and a little overwhelming. We ended up ordering wines from the main menu and enjoyed them quite well. The scallops appetizer was delightful, but the shrimp appetizer was a little burnt. The Steak Chaco was fantastic! We would recommend that to anyone. The Pompano was good, too; but had a hard time competing with the Chaco.
Favorite Dish: Definitely our favorite dish was the Steak Chaco. It was cooked perfectly to temperature, and the flavor stayed with us for the rest of the evening. Even though he says it isn't as good as the Steak Columbia, she says it was the best steak she's had in ages!
Columbia Restaurant: Good Food With a Cuban Flair!
This spacious restaurant in the Old City is exceptional. The motif of the restaurant is Spanish Colonial and the menu items tend to be Spanish/Cuban inspired. The original Columbia restaurant was founded in 1905 in Ybor City, Tampa and now there are a total of six throughout Florida.
The '1905 Salad' is a nice touch as all the ingredients are brought to your table and then tossed there.
Columbia Restaurant: Great food and atmosphere
Great food and atmosphere. Have to sit in the patio dining room. I don't drink, but the wine list and the Sangria are suppsoed to be among the best.
Favorite Dish: Cuban Sandwich for lunch or Paella for dinner.
Smoked ham, pork, salami, Swiss cheese, dill pickle and mustard on hot Cuban bread. can you have a better sandwich?
I have had 2 differen Pealla's here, both are exceptional and full of clams, scallops, grouper, shrimp, etc...
Pricing? I really don't remember, so it must have been worth whatever I paid!
La Columbia: The Gem of Spanish Restaurants
This is one of many La Columbia Restaurants in Florida (the best one is the original in Ybor City, Florida). They serve excellent Spanish food in a semi-fancy situation. Don't think that you need to dress up, though. They might have fancy cloth napkins and water goblets, but you can still wear just your bikini top and shorts.
Favorite Dish: The gazpacho is awesome!
There only two of these restaurants in US. One of them is in St.Augustine, the other in Tampa.
Very good atmosphere, good food and service.
Favorite Dish: I would suggest a carafe of Sangria in hot sunny day.
