Taste of Pinellas is one of the best local festivals I've ever attended. The 2011 version features some 60 local restaurants as well as 14 great bands and fireworks.
We arrived on Sunday, the last day of the festival, and it was hot, hot, hot. Entrance was around $14 a person, certainly reasonable. We ate at a ton of restaurants including Red Mesa from St. Pete, 400 Beach from St. Pete, Crabby Bills from St. Pete, The Pub from Indian Rocks Beach, Seasons Cafe from Pinellas Park, the Pie Factory from Largo, and Brady's Barbecue from Safety Harbor, and we had a few beers from the huge In-Bev Budweiser family. All in all we spent $45 on food and beer, but we ate our fill.
The music lineup was really good, too. Artists included country singer Josh Turner, Chris Isaak, Bonnie Raitt, Colbie Caillat, and Third Eye Blind. We arrived about an hour before Colbie Caillat played, and we stayed through her set, but it was way too hot to stay any longer.
Tip: bring your boat and you can listen to the music and take a dip in the water.

Treasure Island Drum Circle is an absolutely wonderful way to watch the sunset and participate in some local culture.
It happens every Sunday – starting approximately an hour before sunset till 10 PM
The event is free and open to everyone….make music, dance, or just listen.
Drums, Tibetan Chimes & Singing Bowls, Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls, Shakers, Rattles, --- All Sacred Instruments of the Earth are Welcome! Modern drum sets played with sticks don't fit in very well
. . .
BRING your hand drums, any percussion instruments, violin, tuba….Blankets & chairs
Do NOT bring candles, incense, glass bottles or other flammables
In case of rain the circle will relocate to the pavillion at the park on 104th ave across from Fun Center(about a block east of the regular location)
From downtown St. Pete, go west on Central Avenue(over fifty cent toll bridge), then, when it dead ends into Gulf Blvd. turn left. Go a couple blocks south of Central Avenue on Gulf Blvd. to 104th Ave. (Public beach parking lot on beach side across from Treasure Island Fun Center,)

One of the best parts of going to a game is the tailgating. In fact, the team web site encourages it. I cooked enough food to choke a pig, loaded my cooler with beer, and brought beach chairs. I envisioned hordes of fans mingling and eating before the game. Sadly, when we pulled into the lot there was nobody tailgating. We tried to start a tradition, and many people looked at our food with envy, but nobody joined in. Very sad indeed

Everything from Fine Arts to Rock and Roll to a string group to movies, dance shows, and many permenant collections in a number of museums. Some to the best venues are Ruth Eckerd Hall, Ice Palace, and the New Ford Ampitheater in Tampa. If you can't find something to do you just are not trying.

St. Petersburg is all about early bird specials - so don't go to dinner at 8pm. You may find the restaurant is all closed up and done for the night.
