Most of the places located directly on the beach are tourist traps. Better to purchae else where. Looking for a suit? Try Tyrone Mall, I do rememeber a pretty good selections at this shop on Johns Pass though, if its still there. Heard the place caught fire. Had the mix and match tops thing going on. http://johnspass.com/ . Sea Shell Lamps...hmmm......

As locals, we love the tourists, so I wouldn't avoid them. But the Pier, downtown St Pete is particularly touristy. Still worth a visit if you can override your judgments!

    The Pier - overhyped, overpriced

  • I had some friends come and stay with me at the beach recently and when they asked what there was to do around here I couldn't really think of anything so I just suggested The Pier downtown. Unfortunately the only good thing about The Pier is the view from the top, which is impressive. The other floors contain a myriad of ways for shops to help you part with your cash. Overpriced t-shirts, postcards, etc. abound. $20 bucks for a tacky "Crazy Cat Lady" t-shirt??? And the carribean style restaurant on the top floor is much too expensive for the quality of the food and the service.

Bottom Line: Make The Pier a stop on your trip to downtown St. Pete, but don't make it your destination.

Go to the top! It's free and worth the walk.

At the base of The Pier there is a little shack that sells fish to feed to the pelicans that congregate there. If you decide not to do the actual feeding, then stick around and wait for someone else to...it's hilarious! (Pelicans aren't the most graceful of creatures).

ugh, after enjoying a few pints of Guinness in the parking lot, I was dismayed to find the stadium sold only Bud and Miller. On top of that, it was $7.50 per cup!
what a horrible thing to endure.
