the first time i visited salt springs was about 50 years ago and much has changed in that time. in those days the springs were surrounded by a small village of wooden buildings. there was a bait shop that offered boat rentals and the run had several old boat houses. when the national park service took over the spring all of these structures were removed. pictured is a house next to the park near the south parking lot. this structure gives the visitor an idea of what salt springs looked like in the old days. note: this is a private residence, do not tresspass.
pictured is salt springs run. this short run flows into lake george in the back ground. salt springs can be accessed by boat from lake george.
salt springs is located in the ocala national forest and is managed by the national park service. the spring has a nice swimming area with picnic shelters and restrooms.
