The Bubble Room: Keep on Driving to Captiva Island
This is the most memorable restaurant my husband and I have ever eaten at. The decor is completely off the hook. Where else could you find a room that has a Macy's Christmas Window display set up and running? The food was great, the staff (known as Bubble Scouts) were gracious and efficient, and the atmosphere was fun.
Favorite Dish: We were there for lunch and we had the Piggly Wiggly, which was a barbequed pork tenderloin sandwich, prepared South Carolina style, on a homemade bun with coleslaw and sliced dill pickles. The lunch menu was varied and the dinner menu looked great. They also have a kid's menu and an awesome dessert menu.Related to:
Doc Ford's Sanibel Rum Bar and Grill: Don't miss this resturant!
Having read Randy Wayne White's series of books about his character, Doc Ford, I found this resturant on the internet. We visited it three times during our stay at Ft. Myers Beach. On each visit we found to food to be excellent, the drinks refreshing and the atmostphere pleasent. Located on the corner of Rabbit Road and Sanibel-Captiva Road it is well worth the visit. Try the Mojitos, wonderful and refreshing.
Favorite Dish: Tried several dishes, including the Conch Chowder, the New Clam Chowder and a couple of the Grouper dishes. All where excellent. All dishes had excellent flavor and texture. Visited resturant three times and had the Key Lime Pie each time. Best we had the two weeks we were in Florida.
The Sanibel Grill: Best Sports Bar/Restaurant on Sanibel!
Loads of TV's all around the pub...on Sunday's you'll find you're favorite NFL team playing here!
Favorite Dish: Crispy Grouper, breaded with corn flake cereal, served in a basket....and, best of all: $1 Bloody Marys on Sunday afternoons!Related to:
Traders Store & Cafe: A Very Pleasant Surprise!
The name does not do justice to this place! The restaurant is very upscale, contemporary with an extensive menu. And, the building is modern and impressive. We took a chance and stopped here one night for dinner and it turned out to be my favorite dinner on Sanibel.
And, the attached store had some very interesting & unusual pieces in jewelry and gift items.
Favorite Dish: Yellowtail Snapper...so yummy, in a light lemon/dill white sauce with al dente veggies...ahhhh....
McT's Shrimphouse & Tavern: good food
Fabulous food and a great atmosphere
Website: mct's shrimphouse & tavern
Favorite Dish: McT's offers an all-you-can-eat shrimp and crab platter. They serve shrimp 27 different ways ranging from coconut to scampi .
Schnapper's Hots: a bit of Buffalo on the beach
This small carry-out joint is run by three guys from Buffalo, and they sure know their burgers, hot dogs, sausages, and french fries.
Everything is made fresh; in fact, they have their amazing hot dogs made especially for them in Buffalo.
The half-pound burgers are tremendous. And, make sure you try the Weber's mustard.
Favorite Dish: Honestly, while all the meat dishes are very, very good, the fries are great. They're hand cut, and fried to a golden brown. Perfection.Related to:
McT's Shrimp House & Tavern: "The best shrimp house in Florida"-their motto
Large variety of seafood on the menu. Not a sedate restaurant, one where you can laugh aloud and have a good time. Early bird specials and later hours make this a favorite for people going to catch a show at the Old Schoolhouse Theater.
Favorite Dish: Shrimp, of course!
Get their Mud pie for dessert.Related to:
Sunset Grill: Great location-Great atmosphere
Located on the end of Sanibel closest to Captiva. Aptly named because from this small restaurant you can view the sun as it sets over the gulf. Attentive service, quaint surroundings, beer served in tall icy glasses!
Favorite Dish: Discovered the delights of homemade chips in this Florida area. This place serves them up hot, crisp, and sprinkled with an interesting herb combination! We were fighting over the crumbs!Related to:
Can't remember / sorry: Portions are Big!
I wish I could remember the names of the three restaurants we ate at, but they were all very good. But portions are huge! I would have split my dinner/lunch with one of my kids. My advice, look around when you go into a restaurant and see how big the portions are before ordering. All the restaurants we ate at I thought were reasonably priced especially for the portion size.
Mucky Duck/Bubble Room/Green Flash: Hang with the locals
The Ducky's overrated and has set hours for lunch and dinner. It's usually packed with semi-permanent residents (a huge hord of wealthy, clicky old farts) from nearby South Seas Plantation resort (Captiva) that take over the place on most days. They do have a good home brew and service is fast.
The Bubble Room , also on Captiva is interesting with it's eclectic decor and overhead mini train which will give you a sore neck after a while. Get desert, you won't believe the size of pie you get!! The Green Flash (Captiva) has pretty good food and sits overlooking the intracoastal waters. Only flash I saw were cameras?
Plenty other eats to be had on Sanibel too, most all on Periwinkle, the main drag.
RC Otters on Captiva: Fried grouper sanwiches...yummy!
In the heart of Captiva's main area of shops and gallerys, a nice late afternoon lunch spot to relax and enjoy trendy dishes and home brews. Accoustic gituar solo performer was nice added touch.
Favorite Dish: Can't beat fresh local fish and their mexican fare was really tasty too.
Dollar Bill Bar in The Cabbage Key Inn: This place is a definite must-see if in the area!
This place has been in business since 1944. They say it is where Jimmy Buffet got the inspiration to write "Cheeseburger in Paradise". The only way you can get to the restaurant/bar/inn is by boat. There are dollar bills everywhere. You can add one - just sign it and tape it to the wall. We had a crazy night!
Favorite Dish: Great seafood - shrimp, salmon, etc. - They make great drinks too!!
