Islander Trading Post: Quaint Antique Shop even Dudes would like
This shop is quirky with a large range of item prices for the unpretentious shopper, someone interested in different things from the past. It has more vintage and country store and home goods than just decorative overpriced stuff you often find in antique shops. I found particularly interesting the vintage postcard collection they have (most about $1 or $2 each). It's definitely worth a stop and is just off the main road. They also have beer memorabilia.
What to buy: A Vintage sign or postcard, or unique gift for someone back home. We got a reproduction vintage babe ruth chewing tobacco sign that was arty.
Shopping: Cheap T shirts
So, I underpacked and needed something casual to wear. Luckily, Sanibel has a T shirt store (go figure) and I was able to spend a quick $10 to get me through another day
What to buy: yes, I was the dork wearing the 'Sanibel Island' t shirt on Sanibel Island
What to pay: $9.99
She Sells Sea Shells: By the shore...

I bought the majority of my shells in Key Largo at Shell Man and saved a bundle!

main shooping centers: Eclectic, groovy stuff man.....
Sanibel does have some cool stores with traditional to funky odds and ends to island style furnishings. Things you don't find everywhere made by locals and individuals world wide.
What to buy: Blown glass sculptures and vases are awesome along with crazy furniture which the novelity will probably wear off when you come down from your acid trip.
What to pay: Much of the stuff is resonable but goes too ridiculious.

There are plenty of places to shop on the island! Most of the shops look more like fancy resorts than stores. ( I think they may shudder at the word "store.")
