The pier is near the causeway on San Carlos Bay. Many fish can be caught here because the water is deep and the tide runs swiftly. Best chances of fish to be caught: snook, trout, redfish, Spanish mackerel, and sheepshead.
All nonresidents over the age of 16 must have a saltwater fishing license. Florida residents ages 16-65 need a saltwater license when fishing from a boat.
Diving and snorkeling
The diving or snorkeling isn't that good because of the visibility due to weather conditions close in shore. Take your gear with you on your own boat and head north of Captiva or take a charter out with local operators or make the day trip to Key Largo and visit Pennencamp state park.
Fishing on the Gulf side
Back over on the gulf side this fisherman was pulling in whiting every few minutes.
Equipment: Look how wisely he dressed: wide brim hat and long sleeved white shirt. I hope he had on sunblock too!
Huge kite, pump it up with air, little board for both feet....and off you go! Sure looked like it works every muscle in the human body to us!
Equipment: If you have to ask, buy your helmut first.
