    many visitors to sanibel island come here to collect sea shells. the bailey matthews shell museum has a collection of over 150,000 shells. the museum has exhibits on shells, mollusks, and fossilized shells. a very interesting museum on sanibel island.

    An exhibit from the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum.

    The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum features exhibits of shells from around the world. The There is a learning lab for kids and very friendly, and knowledgeable, volunteers who guide people around the museum. Admission was only $6 for adults and $3 for kids (kids under 4 yrs old are free).

    Shell Museum

    A large, beautiful collection of shells from around the world including displays of locally found shells & land snails. Besides the collection of individual species, there are displays of other uses of shells as in art, furniture, money, etc.
    The volunteers are very friendly and eager to communicate their vast knowledge and will answer any questions.
    There is a play room for children and a saltwater enviroment with live shells.
    A slide presentation is available.
    A GEM attraction per the auto club (AAA).

    Admission:
    Adults: 17 & up - $6.00
    Youth: 5-16 - $3.00
    Children: 4 and under FREE

    Open: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    This is a wonderful place to learn more about the world of shells . There is a very interesting short film and displays of shells from around the world.
