steinhatchee has a small historic district downtown. you can see some old fisherman's houses and there is a small park downtown. if traveling on US27 between cross city and perry the ten mile side trip on CR51 to steinhatchee maybe worth a look to see an old florida fishing village.

steinhatchee is famous for it's salt water fishing. depending on the time of the year you can catch sea trout, redfish, mackrell, and grouper in and near steinhatchee bay. steinhatchee is also a good place for crabbing. steinhatchee is a very nice "off the beaten path" place to visit in southeast taylor county.

in my opinion fiddler's is the best restaurant in steinhatchee. they serve local seafood as well as steaks and poultry. they also have a cocktail lounge. good local seafood well priced.

I went to this bar on the weekend of the fiddler crab fest and me and my wife were having a drink when some guy at the end of the bar was yelling obcene and foul language at a young lady at the oposit end of the bar , he was being obnoxis ! after a few min past by this man got up and went to the bathroom located down the hall , when i heard glass shatter ..... I looked around the corner where he broke a picture on the wall with his fist. shattering glass everywhere on the floor , I went quickly to the bar to inform the bartender this guy is damaging the pictures and he needed to to leave , I was told he OWNS THE PLACE ! OMG I couldnt belive the owner was puting the safty of customes at risk with glass on the floor...... we felt very threatend at the whole episode... so we left and will never return , we own alot of hunting land in steinhatchee and have over 600 members in our club , we will be sending a memo out as to what happened and advise against going there.
turns out the young lady was his girlfriend...........and the picture he smashed was of them two fishing..... REAL MATURE BUDDY !

crabbie dad's (formally steinhatchee liquors), is steinhatchee's only free standing bar. fiddler's restaurant also has a lounge. it is just a place to get a beer or a drink after a long day of fishing.
