After walking down the trail that follows the river, you get to the Balanced Rock Trail. It shows the limestone deposits exposed by the erosion caused by the rain, wind. and flowing water in the river. Balnced Rock is also made of limestone. The views along the way are very pretty.

The first trail to the right from the parking lot and picnic area follows the river and shows you some of the plants indigenous to the area. It offers some very pretty scenary. It is through the woods so stay on the trail to avoid any of the wildlife that can harm you. The trail leads up to the Balnced Rock Trail. If you are in decent health you should be able to manage both. Make sure you drink plenty of water.

From the parking lot the trail to the Suwanee River overlook goes to the left. It passes a couple of historic sites that are marked along the way.

Suwannee River State Park has four or five nice walking trails, a boat ramp, wading areas, a playground and a picnic area. There are a variety of places you can stop along the river, including the Stephen Foster Memorial dedicated to this composer and his song "Way Down Upon the Suwannee River". I will talk about three of the trails separately (see my other tips).

There are a variety of spiders living in the Suwanee River State Park that are harmful to you. Stay away from them.

Favorite thing: I found it amusing that entrance to the Suwannee River State Park was by the honor system. You pull out a blue envelope, put in $4.00 and tear off a little ticket to attach to your visor.
